Just like another poster, we are also unsure of whether or not the name we've chosen (well, one of two we've shortlisted) merges with our surname.

One of the first names we like is Reuben and our surname is similar to Bert (one syllable).

Would this be an issue do you think?

The second name we've chosen wouldn't be a problem at all, but we are more keen on Reuben so far.

Thanks

my nephews first name is Jed and his surname starts with a d so if you don't enunciate it very clearly it merges into one name. I thought it was odd at first , but unless you are being introduced or called ie school register or doctors waiting room, it wouldn't cause a problem. i would just go with the name you prefer, I do think Reuben is rather cool, and unusal without being strange

The two Bs, if that's the problem (reuBEN Bert) don't slip off the tongue very smoothly.

thank you for both your opinions. DH says he can't see a problem but if it bothers me that much then we should go with the other name we've chosen as it poses no problems at all.

yes mathanxiety it's really the fact that the reuBEN Bert merges, the two B's close together it is bothering me a bit as to whether it sounds daft to other people. It's better to have honest opinions now rather than later!

Have you considered Reuven, which is a variant?

will run Reuven past DH later on when he gets back with DS - I quite like that! Thanks mathanxiety
