Samcam for a girl?

I know it's unusual and might be difficult for people at first, but I really LOVE it. And hubbie thinks it's a bit of alright too.

Trouble is, we can't afford independent school and don't live in a grammar or faith-elite catchment area. Do you think it's a bit pretentious for a girl who'll possibly be smoking fags by the time she moves on to juniors?

You are joking aren't you? What's the real name going to be? Is there actually a baby on the way?

I hope to god you are joking.

With expectations as high as that for your baby, I think it's perfect.

(prays you are joking)

BitOfFun · 08/04/2010 17:19

Do it.

There will be a thread on here in the years to come, "today I saw a poor child with the name.....!"

ClematisMontana · 08/04/2010 17:40

Do you think it's too poncey, then? That's what I feared.

Especially as my other daughter (4) wipes snot on her sleeve and calls a napkin a serviette.

But I LOVE Samcam. I think I might just have to go for it and then shorten it to Sam if she gets impetigo.

If do go for Samcam, I don't suppose I should allow her to grow a fringe? Ever? I was told by someone on Mumsnet that a fringe in an under ten-year-old is a certain sign of impending teen pregnancy. I can't bear the thought of my Samcam consigned to a life on a couch mumsnetting watchin daytime telly, dressed in a Louise Bourgeois limb-coloured, velour tracksuit. With a hood.

My MIL shops at Poundland and votes UKIP (have you noticed they share a logo and UKIP copywriters can't spellindependence? ) and she's says she's going to write my daughter out of her will (such as it is) if we call her Samcam.

Is it worth upsetting your in-laws for a really classy name you absolutely love?

FioFio Lovely suggestion. But it wouldn't work with our surname: MacMasters.
