I think it is so pretty but I'm not sure if it is too unusual and would maybe cause pronunciation problems/ teasing.

What do you think?

I thought of melons too ...... and I think it is a hard one to pronounce.

I'd say Cal-ee-oh-pay.

sleepyhead3 · 06/04/2010 19:45

Maybe it's a no no then- shame because it is a beautiful name!

How about Karaoke? It's a bit edgier.

mathanxiety · 06/04/2010 20:58

I prefer Callista.

eatyourveg · 06/04/2010 21:00

reminds me of horses (galloping)

JaynieB · 06/04/2010 21:02

I think its nice - like onebatmother I also loved Calypso, which was roundly denounced by everyone!

ilovepiccolina · 06/04/2010 21:05

lol @ BitofFun.

I prefer Calypso, or Cassiopeia. OTOH Calypso sounds a bit Caribbean.

Calliope might grow on me, I suppose.

Oh I was just watching CSI NY this afternoon (hiding from the DCs in my room!) and there was a character named this on there. I like it, but I have a soft spot for Greek names.

HelenFF · 06/04/2010 21:58

I think it's a lovely name

Hulababy · 06/04/2010 22:11

Not keen

CappuccinoCarrie · 06/04/2010 22:22

Never heard of it as a name before, first thought was it reads like something I'd see on a menu, not sure why. Sorry, wouldn't want to go through life with that as a name.

ilovepiccolina · 06/04/2010 22:28

Cappuccino is nice

runnybottom · 06/04/2010 22:33

Its Cal-eye-oh-pay. Callie for short.

Love it.

CappuccinoCarrie · 06/04/2010 23:04

Just trying to be honest - surely this is a thread asking for honest opinions of names? I have genuinely never heard of the name or seen the word written before so I gave my first reaction to it. But that's not a reason not to use it, if you like it then do it! And Callie is a very cute nn IMO.

LaRagazzaInglese · 07/04/2010 01:06

It's a cheap clothes shop in Italy pronounced Cal-lee-o-peh, doesn't sound like a name to me...

CarmenSanDiego · 07/04/2010 04:39

It's nice, but it's definitely Call-eye-oh-pe. Same sort of pronunciation as Hermione.

Hmm I'd be more worried about the mythological references
Calliope mother of Orpheus plus being bit hard to live up the "wisest muse"

But for the record I had a pony called CAlliope
And without fail most read it as Callie Ope
Which made it sound so much less beautiful

It is a lovely name but I am sure it would get shortened to Callie which is also lovely

TwentiethCenturyHeffa · 07/04/2010 07:49

I love it, and the shortening to Callie is lovely. It probably will get mispronounced a bit so it depends how much that bothers you really.

Northumberlandlass · 07/04/2010 08:06

Ha Lemon, I was just going to say that is the name of the Royal Naval Reserves in Gateshead.

I actually quite like the name. I love Callie / Cally for short.

whoodoo · 08/04/2010 11:22

it's the name of the character in middlesex - very long novel that I once read at a book club. sad story really about a person born who was not sure of their gender - raised as a girl but in later life decided to go forward as a man caling himself Cal.

Maleeka · 08/04/2010 23:16

Cassiopeia is just beautiful, also quite like
Andromeda, we've gone a bit clash of the titans at our house at the mo
