I have an Isabella but her siblings call her Mimi and it seems to be sticking!

sloppyjoe · 06/04/2010 21:33

Mine is Natalie, known to all as Tillie.
I also wanted a more 'grown-up' sounding name officially.

sloppyjoe · 06/04/2010 21:34

Oh, she also gets Tillie shortened to 'Till', or Tills.

FloweryTwats · 06/04/2010 22:06

I have a Phoebe nn Bee so go for it, so long as you do like the 'long' name too. FWIW I love Tilda.

Divatheshopaholic · 06/04/2010 22:13

Tilly is nice but not Felicity

comtessa · 07/04/2010 17:32

I wouldn't worry too much. Look at the older names - Peggy is a common NN for Margaret, Nell for Helen etc. But I do also like the Tilda option! Sadly my DH won't hear of it for our little one. Sigh. There's also Talitha as a name for a NN of Tilly. Also, my brother is called Ab by everyone - including his wife. His real name? Andrew. Except I couldn't say that when I was little. Names can just work.

Would also love to know which is the contendor! Do tell

Lancelottie · 07/04/2010 18:05

We know a Tilly-short-for-Elizabeth, so Felicity doesn't sound that far out to me.

Fourleaf · 07/04/2010 18:43

Contender, I mean. Ahem.

Tobermory · 07/04/2010 19:02

The more I think about it the more I'm loving Tilly as a daily name and Felicity as a formal one.

I'm normally easily swayed by the opinions of others, and the fact that I'm happily ignorning those with different opinions and liking it more regardless, speaks volumes!

So thankyou for all your alternative suggestions but we might have ourselves a v short, short list!!

I think it's fine if you want to have two names in use.

But surely a nickname is something that evolves in time, if at all; not all sorted out from day one? Probably just me - I've tried hard to avoid nn's with dc.

I do like Tilly though .

brightyoungthing · 07/04/2010 19:29

I knew a Felicity who for some reason called herself Fizz! I love the name Tilly and if you want it as a nn then go for it. It's not that much different and is really cute for a small child and when she's older and a successful lawyer or surgeon, Felicity fits the bill!
