Todd for a boy - thoughts?

I really like the name Tom but, for various reasons, it's not an option for our unborn son. I recently came across the name Todd, meaning "cunning as a fox". The only Todd I've ever heard of is the actor that played Mark Fowler in Eastenders. He's not so bad as to avoid the name I don't think. Thoughts anyone?

I absolutely hate Todd Carty and his useless character of Mark Fowler. So definitely not.

Don't sit on the fence Lamazed, tell me what you really think.

Mark Fowler aside, do you still hate the name Todd?

very australian.

And it just makes me think of the phrase 'on your tod'

and the german for death

Fimbow · 04/04/2010 19:43

I think of it as a surname but then I lurve Campbell (my dh hates it) which is also a surname so not much help there.

Lamazed · 04/04/2010 19:46

Sorry - I have an irrational hatred of Todd Carty. I can't get past it. There are hundreds of other lovely names. Todd is not one of them!

What about Ellis. This is a good name!

MrsKitty · 04/04/2010 19:48

Todd, for me, will forever be that kid on Neighbours around 15 years ago. He had incredible hair - stuck straight up off his head - hate to imagine the amount of gel he must have got through!

cookielove · 04/04/2010 19:49

I have a lovely cousin called Todd, he is American, and to be honest have not come across any Todds in England.

MrsKitty · 04/04/2010 19:50

Fimbow - if DD had been a boy she'd have been Campbell, but she turned out to be a girl (obviously). Think you were on my thread about it actually!

seashore · 04/04/2010 20:06

Very American, it's one of those names I would never consider for that reason, along with - Brody, Brandon, Evan . . .

Fimbow · 04/04/2010 20:29

Quite possibly Mrs Kitty, I heart it and cannot bear to hear it being bashed!

PanicMode · 04/04/2010 20:37

A friend of mine has one (he's 5) and it suits him really well....his father is from the southern hemisphere though so perhaps its more usual there? (I wouldn't have even thought about EE/Mark Fowler if you hadn't mentioned it, but then I don't watch soaps)

I quite like it! I wouldn't have thought of Todd Carty.... Makes a change from Oliver/Charlie/Finlay etc

Bucharest · 05/04/2010 18:03

We call rabbit poo "tods" in my neck of t'woods.

janeite · 05/04/2010 18:08

I like it, which surprises me. And I would never have thought of Eastenders or Americans tbh.

CirrhosisByTheSea · 05/04/2010 18:11

I find this a very plodding, dull name. I think it just kind of 'disappears' as you say it....

ShadeofViolet · 05/04/2010 19:37

It reminds me of 'Toddworld' so it puts me off.

HopHopALady · 06/04/2010 12:23

Hmmm, think that might have made my decision for me then! Thanks for all your input.

WitchyWooWoo · 07/04/2010 11:42

AllieW · 07/04/2010 12:14

I think of Australian tennis players - there seem to be scads of them called Todd. Not terribly keen, sorry.

HopHopALady · 20/04/2010 15:52

In case anyone's interested, we went for Samuel in the end!

padraig · 20/04/2010 15:56
