Leo / Leonard / Leonardo?

what do you think of this name? and which variant is better/more 'interesting'?

no italian connection in the family by the way, aiming for a name that could fit many cultures. Our sir name is doubled barrelled if that helps, R[one syllable]-K[two syllables]

thanks!

Leo, definitely.

I don't like Leonard (or Lenny/Len as nns, but I love the Dutch girl's name Leni weirdly enough) and I don't think it has any international quality. Leonardo is nice but too long to go with a double-barreled surname.

I vote for Leo!

theagedparent · 03/04/2010 13:46

Leonard is the best. Love Len/Lenny

Totally different all 3 really.

Leo is a bit trendy and "now". If I think of Leo, I imagine him to have a brother called Jasper and a sister called Imogen.

Leonard is just awful- it's Rigsby from Rising Damp, it's an old man.

Leonardo is only for someone with Italian connections and even then it's a bit old man.

I love Leon, but I wouldn't have the courage to use it...

Intergalactic · 03/04/2010 15:13

To throw another option in there, I know a Leonidas. He's Greek Cypriot. If there's no Italian connection then you could just as well go for a Greek version?

Having said that, I prefer Leonardo with your surname I think. Or Leo. Not Leonard.

Tinasan · 03/04/2010 15:18

I love Leonardo and considered it for DS, but my husband is Italian. I think it would look a bit naff with a British surname. Leo is really nice too!

CirrhosisByTheSea · 03/04/2010 16:13

Leo is one of my absolute favourite names - I think it's stylish and cool. Leonardo - well it's ok but I'm afraid people would just say "named after DiCaprio?" all the time......Leonard, is not nearly so nice. Agree it's rather old man-ish

Go for Leo!

thanks for your thoughts, now i shall add a bit more detail if anyones still reading the thread!

its all a bit complex so thought i would get thoughts just on this name first!

Leo/ Leonardo would be the SECOND name, with Louai as the first name, which is an arabic name [dh is palestinian]... said loo-eye.

so all together the name would be Louai Leo R-K, or Louai Leonardo R-K

do you think this sounds ok/ nice? its a way of getting a compromise on brit-arabic names... he'd probably be called Leo on a day to day basis but Louai to arabic family and formal occasions...

'Leo is a bit trendy and "now". If I think of Leo, I imagine him to have a brother called Jasper and a sister called Imogen.'

This is so funny....I named DS (7mo) Leo because it was my great grandfather's name. Only found out it was rising in popularity afterward (number 40 for boys now I think?) 10 years ago it didn't even make top 100.

I can heartily assure you the future miniYanks will not be called Imogen or Jasper.

I don't think either name goes well with the first, it is a bit like a tongue, it is difficult to pronounce them together.
