zippy539 · 26/03/2010 23:05

I know a Dollina...

LittleBunnyFooFoo · 26/03/2010 23:05

Why not just call her Dolly?

mazzystartled · 26/03/2010 23:07

I love Dolores

Why not just Dolly?

ChynaDoll2006 · 26/03/2010 23:09

Donalda, Donaldina, Dolina, Donella, ,
Have an Auntie Dolly..
Love the name...

BaDaBing · 27/03/2010 00:17

My nickname is dolly, but my name is catherine.long story! I think for a nick name it really doesn't matter what the forename is as you can have an unrelated nick name as I do!

Rival28 · 27/03/2010 00:20

Olivia! I know one called olly dolly! She is beautiful

MarianneD · 27/03/2010 12:41

I think Dolly would usually be nn for Dorothy

twosofar · 28/03/2010 13:42

Dorothea or Theodora

MY DP wants Theodora nn Dolly if we ever have a girl

Runoutofideas · 28/03/2010 14:24

Isadora?

EvilTwins · 28/03/2010 14:27

Is it not one of those where it's an accepted nn for something totally unrelated? Like Daisy being a nn for Margaret? (something I didn't know, btw, before naming DD Daisy, and being told by MIL that this is the case - MIL,dammit, is called Margaret)

Maggie00 · 28/03/2010 15:52

Delia. Dollies are slang for boobs. I really think Dolly is a terrible name for a woman. Ok for a toddler. But a 'doll' ? is that a name for an adult?

Polly is lovely though.

livviloo · 28/03/2010 18:03

my dh calls his neice dolly and she is Gwendolyn(her mum calls her Gwendo!)

bobbiewickham · 28/03/2010 18:06

Daisy is a nn for Margaret because of marguerites. I think.

WingedVictory · 28/03/2010 18:11

Marguerite is French for daisy, and I think margarita is Latin for pearl. I guess the yellow centre of the daisy is the pearl sitting in the oyster....

WRT Maggie00's Polly, what about Paulina?

CirrhosisByTheSea · 28/03/2010 19:08

How about Dorabella as the full name? Twas the name of a victorian lady who inspired one of Elgar's 'Enigma Variations', I believe.

My Nan was Doris nn Dolly or Doll. She was a formidable woman - very, very inappropriate nickname in her case

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 28/03/2010 21:36

How many babies are you having Chyna? you are asking about different names every five minutes

letsblowthistacostand · 28/03/2010 22:24

Why not just name her something completely different and call her Dolly as a pet name? I call DD1 Sweet Pea and DD2 Cute Patoot but I wouldn't have put those names on their birth certificates.

I just don't she'll ever get taken seriously, not even as a 3 year old, with the name Dolly. Sorry.

ChynaDoll2006 · 29/03/2010 10:10

Kat, I'm ttc at the moment, so (probably) only one just now!

Just want to think of all the possibilities!

(and maybe am slightly addicted to mumsnet

As I understand it, Dolly is officially a nn for Dorothy/Dorothea. The only Dolly I ever met was very elderly (in her 90s when I was little) and her "real" name was Dorothy.
