really pretty.

thelunar66 · 21/03/2010 01:03

I immediately think... 'Bloody Nora'

Sorry.

jabberwocky · 21/03/2010 01:32

I was just listening to Norah Jones today and thinking what a lovely name it is.

boodleboot · 21/03/2010 08:26

I like it and Nora Batty is a pretty old reference i don't think many of the kids she will be growing up with will call her that....and if adults are calling her names well

only slight fly in ointment for me is Nitty Nora....thats what we called someone at school who had the dreaded headlice....

Prefer Nina or Laura.

menomena · 21/03/2010 13:37

Lovely name. I wouldn't think of Nora Batty at all shrug

I think of Norah Jones or Ibsen's Nora in Dollhouse.

Spidermama · 21/03/2010 13:40

Very nice. Due a revival.
Nora Batty wouldn't be an issue as no-one under forty has even heard of her.

madly · 21/03/2010 20:02

Leonora is a gorgeous name and could have Nora as a NN [though mine doesn't].

GoldenSnitch · 21/03/2010 20:13

I'm significantly under forty and 'Batty' was the first thing that came to my mind when I read Norah!!

followed by 'Bloody'

Littlefish · 21/03/2010 20:16

Reminds me of a nun who used to teach me at school. Sister Norah.

Firawla · 22/03/2010 19:57

very nice, its classy, pretty but not ott

CaptainPicardsPineapple · 23/03/2010 16:56

Not keen. There are plenty which are prettier.

BridesheadRegardless · 23/03/2010 17:11

Horrid.

It's the Nor sound, like 'nor'ing on a piece of meat.

mathanxiety · 23/03/2010 17:24

Lovely. I know three Noras under age 12.

OtterInaSkoda · 24/03/2010 17:50

I know one who'd be coming up for 10 I think. It's a lovely name.

Pancakeflipper · 24/03/2010 17:51

I like Norah.

BalloonSlayer · 24/03/2010 17:54

Love it. Would have liked it for DD.

Brideshead's comment has reminded me of another one she might encounter though - the Batty Book "Baby's Revenge by Norah Titt."

AllieW · 24/03/2010 17:55

I don't like it, I'm afraid. I hear "gnawer", which is not especially elegant.

There were a couple of sisters in our village who used to invite me and my sister for tea each year as a treat. They were lovely and it always struck me that Nora could have done with a prettier name. Her sister, Vera, I always felt had the better deal (although I'm not so keen on that, either).

Sorry.

DinahRod · 24/03/2010 17:56

Love it but dh wouldn't countenance it.

Might be tempted to go for Lenore/a or Eleanor as a full name and use Nora/h if she found it a bit hard to live with

notsoteenagemum · 24/03/2010 18:12

I like it one of my fave books was Norah O'Flanigan Prefect.

GladioliBuckets · 24/03/2010 18:19

Prefer Dora for a bit of latin style.
