Love Harry but dh has a cousin called Harrison that he shortens to Harry. We rarely see him though.

My cousins wife has a son called Harry. We do not get on.

Can we use Harry?

Do you like Harry?

Entirely up to you. I wouldn't use names of cousins/cousins' children, but we see them lots, and the kids all have strong relationships with each other.

What if you called him Henry, and shortened to Harry? (a la Prince Harry) Then he has a 'unique' name, but you still get to use Harry.

Prefer Henry, not shortened to Harry.

Harry has completely different connotations to Harrison. Also if it's your dh's cousin rather than the child's cousin, then it wouldn't cross my mind not to use it.

I wouldn't. I have 30+ cousins and had to rule out a few names. It felt like there was nothing left! All the classics had gone.

Harrison is ok, not my style. Edison and Jefferson would make a change from Harrison and I like them because they are slightly outside the box.

I got it the wrong way round. The cousin is Harrison. Right. Thought you wanted to use that.

Call your child Henry, and let it 'evolve' into Harry. NObody will be upset.

I love the name Harry, I have one

I'd say it was fine to use.

Use? yes
Like? yes

Good luck

Use it if you like it.

No one can own a name.

Some names are more appropriate than others, for example if you saw them often it may make it harder but it sounds like this is not the case.

If you want to use Henry to be different then do but only if you want to.

My mum's sister named her child after one of her own sisters (and the one who was named after named her son the same name as my dad). I don;t think anyone was confused and if we were we just said Auntie * Cousin * etc.

It could be a compliment if you like someone but more likely just that you like the name.

If you want to use it then it is not a problem.
