I know it's weird but....

I'm not pg, or planning to be anytime soon, but I would love these names for a daughter - I wish that it would ever be possible!!

I know they are herbs/spices, but if Cicily, Saffron, Jasmine, Poppy, Rosemary etc are ok shouldn't these be?!

Tarragon
Cinnamon
Anise
Sage
Sorrel

Are they completely unnacceptable?

Cinnamon is great. Think you coudl get away with Anise and Sorrel as well. Will be thinking of more now...

I think Sorrel is actually quite nice and may even be a legitimate name! Sage is more of a boy's name - my male is a Sage.

The other three - completely unacceptable.

I did come across a little girl called Chilli once. But that was in Brighton...

Glad you didn't suggest Chive, Parsley or Cumin.

I'm not suggesting them because they are herbs and spices!!! I just really wish that Tarragon and Cinnamon were real names, because I think they are really pretty!

Glad Sage and Sorell don't appear too odd.

I think if Tarragon and Cinnamon were just made up words and not a herb or a spice people wouldn't react as strangely when I told them!!

Tarragon. She could always change it if she hated it.

The other thing is I would never want two daughters called Tarragon and Cinnamon - that would just be cruel.

I know an Anise she is part French and I think it's much more common there.

I know a Cinnamon in RL. She lives up to it, though -- you'd have to. It's one of those names that could backfire if you had a very shy, retiring child who hated being different ...

Cinnamon was the name of a character in the Mission Impossible TV series. She was v v glam (but had pooey 70s teeth).

Both me and DP have red hair, so Cinnamon could run the risk of teasing as a result I guess.

Good to know there are some RL people with these names..makes me feel less freaky for liking them!

All are staying on my shortlist

I know one Annese, but not Anise. And a 9 year old Sage (a girl).

Cinnamon is a little red light, imo. Sorrel makes me thin of ponies. Tarragon, no, not a name.

Anise - yes, that would make a lovely name as well.

Tarragon and Cinnamon are silly ideas, sorry.

Sylvester Stallone called his son Sage. For that reason alone I would say no.

If you like Spicey names what about Cassia? It is a spice similar to cinnamon.

Also, Nigella. It is a black spice (called Kalonji in Indian supermarkets).

And Saffron.

I am 26, live in a large town up North, am a step-mum to 2 gorgeous kids - both of whom have normal but lovely names.

I am an avid reader of baby name posts (come into contact with a lot of mothers in my work and general life so have always been interested in what people name their kids) and have always had a 'shortlist', ever since I was a kid. Normally influenced by books/tv programmes etc.

I really do like the names Cinammon and Tarragon. As I said, not both together, but just a small musing on how lovely I think it would be if you could name your kids anything (within reason) that you thought was pretty.

Nothing inflamatory there, surely? I'm not suggesting mandatory herb/spice names for all kids. I'm not slating anyone else's choices. Just asking for some MN feedback.

Getorfmoiland - Cassia is very pretty, but a bit too close to my own name sadly to come across as anything but ego!! Not too keen on Nigella, I know it's a silly thing to say but it's too close to Nigel. Which is a horrible name IMO.

Saffron is pretty, but just quite common - well, not unusual I guess I mean.

If Tarragon wasn't a herb, and you'd never heard the word before - would it still be silly??

Milly, when I was pregnant I remembering thinking the names Alpine and Milano would be nice.

I think it's nice for a boy, not particularly feminine IMO. Didn't Kirstie Allsop call her son that?
