Finally after weeks of mind changing and the results of my other thread, I'm down to Mary and Julia. Sister for Robert. Surname starts with B.

Mary Elizabeth

Julia Rose

But which one???

Neither names have any association for me, ds was always going to be Elizabeth Mary but I think Elizabeth has become abit popular now, especially with all the lizzie's and libby's round here.

I like nice traditional solid names that aren't ten a penny!

Mary.

Julia.

Mary is wonderful and simple - and very rare in the UK nowadays

EightiesChick · 15/03/2010 14:58

Love both so either would be great. But I have a liking for Mary, which is a very timeless, classic name and yet isn't much used these days. Makes me think of strong female heroines in fiction like Mary Garth in Middlemarch. Julia probably will remind people of Julia, especially if her brother is Robert, but that is not necessarily a bad thing!
Both Rose and Elizabeth are also lovely middle names. Great choices all round.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 15/03/2010 15:04

Julia.

I like you middle names too - Elizabeth is a great first name, as others have said.

But what about Margaret ? - Meg, Maggie, Peggy as nn

Mary Elizabeth. Mary is very stylish, imo, and unusual.

Mary is not stylish and unusual, it is the name of every second woman between 50 and 70.

hellymelly · 15/03/2010 22:39

Eek.My mother-in-law is Mary Julia.!

campion · 16/03/2010 02:24

Mary - dull.
Elizabeth doesn't have to be shortened to anything. You just need to be firm for a while by which time all the others will have become Libby etc. I like it.
Julia - quite nice.

Julia Elizabeth preferable to Julia Rose.

JodieO · 16/03/2010 03:04

I wouldn't use either

mathanxiety · 16/03/2010 04:00

Oh no, they're all called Lorraine, Gladys, Phyllis, Ina, Ita, Breda, Thelma, Mavis and Pam round my neck of the woods. Mary, by contrast, is very refreshing.

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 16/03/2010 04:06

I know a lot of baby Julias (American, mostly, though) so I say Mary. Not sure about Mary Elizabeth, though, it's a bit too Tudor. Your B surname isn't Boleyn?

So, Mary, but actually out of those four I would pick Elizabeth Rose.

spaghettina · 16/03/2010 15:38

Julia has more to it, sounds more interesting, although Mary is a classic and very underused. Personally I like the sound of Mary Rose (like the Tudor warship!)

MissusRabbit · 16/03/2010 17:29

Julia......or Juliet

sallyjaygorce · 16/03/2010 17:32

Mary.

juliamary · 16/03/2010 17:36

I'm Julia Mary and I love my name. Not so much the Mary as it is quite old fashioned - but love Julia. I think it seems to be getting more popular.
Obviously I've name changed.
