A spelling question, not a name question

Ok, so DH and I can only agree on one girl's name - Darcey. I know it's a marmite name, but we like it so there

We just can't decide how to spell it - cue MN jury please. So, on first reaction, would you say Darcey, Darcie or Darcy?

i like your 'darcie' spelling the best as it just looks prettier than the others IYWIM.

I also like the name .

Lionstar · 12/03/2010 08:33

I'd go with Darcie

Darcy is the boys spelling, and Darcey too much like it

Kathyjelly · 12/03/2010 08:37

I'm sure you could find it spelt every different way if you look far enough. Surely what matters is which you like most.

I think it comes originally from d'Arcy, but I'm probably wrong.

MamaLazarou · 12/03/2010 11:16

I would go with d'Arcy.

But then I have delusions of grandeur.

Heated · 12/03/2010 11:18

Darcy

I know no boys of this name.

SE13Mummy · 12/03/2010 11:26

The two girls I know called Darcey spell it as I have just done so I'd go with that.

chimchar · 12/03/2010 11:35

darcy is my natural way of spelling.

imo, darcie is a bit ermmmmm. dunno. frilly?

RachieB · 12/03/2010 11:56

i know of 2 baby girls with this name 1 is Darcy the other Darcey

Darcy looks like it should to me! lol and i dont know any boyss called it eiter

RachieB · 12/03/2010 11:57

oh crap excuse the typos!

BravoJuliet · 12/03/2010 11:58

Darcie, to help people realise it's a girl. Prefer Dulcie

myfirstbump · 12/03/2010 15:35

Thanks everyone. I hadn't considered it as a boys name - apart from in a Mr Darcy kind of way...

My mind says Darcey, but DH thinks -ie so he's with the majority by the looks.

My name ends with a y, and it constantly gets mispelled with an ie at the end. And I always think that my name with an ie looks frilly chimcar and that's not me! But then I always think that your name has a bearing on your character.

Darcey for a girl, Darcy for a boy.

For me, Darcie is to Darcey as Aimee is to Amy.....a bit more frilly and obviously feminine.

I prefer Darcey as it seems more 'right' iykwim?

maresedotes · 12/03/2010 16:06

My dd is called Darcy. I just preferred spelling it this way. It is a Celtic name and means "girl with dark hair". Useless information I know especially as she is blonde.

allaboutme · 12/03/2010 16:09

Darcy looks right to me

twosofar · 12/03/2010 16:21

I know a boy who's called Darcy...his mum is a Kiwi. I think it may be more commonly used for men in Oz/NZ?
FWIW I like Darcey best
