When I suggested this pretty name (nn Bel) to DH he said "we don't dream the same dream on that front then". I like it, what do you all think?

Right, I'm off for a shower. Someone try to reply or I will feel very old, and like my song reference had gone...

I like it for other people iykwim.

I always think Linda names are belonging to the Sharon and Tracy generation, but I know a grown up Belinda - and she is a blonde bombshell :-)

lovechoc · 10/03/2010 20:49

well I like it, because it's not a name you hear very often. you having the same issues we're having then?! lol we're trying to choose a name for DS2, but proving v difficult to agree on one!

it's a 'yes' from me (not that my opinion counts for much).

Megletwantsittobesummer · 10/03/2010 20:52

It's lovely, I know someone with the name. Unusual in the UK, but apparently quite popular in OZ (random fact there for you).

I only know one Belinda and she's lovely (aged about 45).

I like the name as it is. Not shortened at all.

LadyThompson · 10/03/2010 21:15

I hate Linda but I love Belinda. Funny, isn't it

sofia99 · 10/03/2010 21:17

I hate Linda too, never really even connected them! Belinda seems like such a different type of name to me.

I quite like it actually. quite unusual

BravoJuliet · 10/03/2010 21:32

I like it. It's pretty but it's a strong name. I can imagine a Belinda being really good fun but very organised.

AbFabT · 10/03/2010 21:34

I liked that song!

My cousin (in her twenties) is called Belinda, we called her Billy or Bil for short - I like it.

SirBoobAlot · 10/03/2010 22:04

Its DPs Mums name. I like it, but I remember her telling a story about her dad not allowing it to go on the birth certificate because it made him think of a cow..!

I think it's okay but the "Linda" aspect puts me off a little bit because it sounds slightly dated. I have an aunt with this name though and a cousin (primary school age) who has it for her middle name... think it can still work. I like it better than Melinda or similar - seems more serious but can also have the cute nn Bel.

soda1234 · 10/03/2010 23:40

My best friend is a "Belinda" it's a lovely name. She's always been "BB" or "bins" to me , she is "Auntie Binnie" to my children, but she often signs herself Bee. For me, this name will always be wonderful. Use it!

skihorse · 11/03/2010 09:20

Love it - she was an extremely inspirational woman I met when I was 11 years old - went by "Billy".

BridesheadRegardless · 11/03/2010 10:04

I love this name.

I also think it's very different from Linda, and the era and associations of that name.

it's a strong yet not overlky serious or stern sounding name.

i like Bel for short too.

lycheemartini · 11/03/2010 10:08

I like it - could it be shortened to Bella too?

noddyholder · 11/03/2010 10:10

No don't like at all sorry

I like it - to me it's a sort of 50s name like Pamela. Due a revival.

Ewe · 11/03/2010 10:18

I don't like it at all, know of two and they are both pretty chavvy so for me it has that connotation.
