If I thought that Anna was the name I really wanted, then yes. I don't understand people who don't use a name because niece/somerandomsleb/neighbour'sdog has it.

WE named our DD the same name as IL's dog. They were a bit . I loved the name, so why not?

dizzydixies · 10/03/2010 19:40

we used a very similar name for DD2 that my dcousin used for her DD. There was 7yrs between them and they live abroad however I still wouldn't imagine a similar name between cousins is a huge issue unless they live 2 doors away and would cause confusion for the kids

I'm not really into the whole ownership of names thing

CirrhosisByTheSea · 10/03/2010 20:37

Yep I would. They are two different names. And the children are unlikely to go round in a pair for the rest of their entire lives.

yellowcircle · 10/03/2010 20:39

Yes I would.

My DD has the exact same name as my cousin's DD. Mother and daughter took it as a compliment and were really pleased.

Hulababy · 10/03/2010 20:45

Depends on a how much I really loved the name Anna over all others. But as so close (and they do sound very very similar let's face it) I would check with Hannah's parents if they minded. It would also depend on how close the family was, ghow often together, etc I think.

My niece is Hannah and I do actually like the name Anna, but I personally wouldn't do it.

My niece is Hannah and we're planning to call our next little one Anna, funnily enough with the same middle name as her cousin....
Doesn't feel like it matters to us - but the surnames are different and we live miles and miles away.

Lovethesea · 10/03/2010 21:26

I have an Anna (DD) and also a cousin Hannah. Don't actually like the name Hannah so much but Anna worked it's way up the list despite my initial 'Its too close to Hannah/cousin' comment.

I see my cousin about once a year at most, she lives hundreds of miles away and she is a generation older than DD is.

I'm really glad we went with Anna. Love the meaning, the simplicity of it with a complex surname and that I think it suits any kind of character she might have.

My db gave his son a name that was only a variant of the one our elder brother gave his son. Never caused a problem with anyone though they do meet quite frequently.

Interesting. Thank you.

I don't think I would.

BIL and SIL have called their DD the same name as SIL's sister and SILs other sister's DD (hope that makes sense) I found that a little odd - she must REALLY love the name
