Will not William?

Evening! What do you all think of Will - not keen on William - could we call DS just Will?
Any suggestions on longish middle names?
Other children are Jimmy - not James and Claudia.
Thanks! Lindsayx

love Will and couldn't think of a reason at all why not to use it as a stand alone name

only other one I can think of is Willum as an alternative

hellokitty123 · 09/03/2010 21:45

Will?

As in I will.... or a will?

I don't see Will as a standalone name. William or Wilred yes, but not just will.

hellokitty123 · 09/03/2010 21:45

Wilfred, not Wilred. must preview before posting.

Hulababy · 09/03/2010 21:50

Will is a nn, not a full name IMO.

William is lovely.

Alternatives could be Wilfred, Willum, Willoughby, etc.

annasophia · 09/03/2010 21:59

Will reminds me of 'the last will' - that is not a name imo!

DiamondHead · 10/03/2010 10:16

Wilbur

hulabula · 10/03/2010 10:34

Wilfred, Willum, Willibald, Winifred ?

Will is not a name imo. "Will you come here, Will, will you?"

squeaver · 10/03/2010 10:36

I like Will. Will is cool, William a bit of a wuss.

Friend of mine has an American boyfriend whose name is Willie. Completely normal over there - imagine.

hulabula · 10/03/2010 10:50

Willie . Really?

FourArms · 10/03/2010 10:52

I have a William, usually called Will. The only issue is this house has winkies not willies!

squeaver · 10/03/2010 10:57

Really. It felt so weird saying his name at first but now it's ok (sniggering has abated)

diddl · 10/03/2010 11:01

Think Will is OK as a nn for William.

Sunshinemummy · 10/03/2010 11:02

There is a Willem at my DC's nursery.

yellowcircle · 10/03/2010 11:03

I'd just use Will as the full name.

yellowcircle · 10/03/2010 11:04

Just like plenty of people have Nicky, Nicki, Nikki as full name - they aren't called Nicola.

hulabula · 10/03/2010 11:08

But Nicky sounds like a name.

Will sounds like a verb (I will), and a noun (a will) to my ears. Plus it is far too close to Willie!

BravoJuliet · 10/03/2010 11:11

I prefer Bill to Will. Will is a bit imprecise. noun? tense? name? full name? really? I would go mad explaining it all.

yellowcircle · 10/03/2010 11:23

If you say "what's your name" and someone replies "Will", it's easy to understand. Names are used in context usually so I wouldn't think they would be confused with nouns etc.

People are called "April" etc

mopsyflopsy · 10/03/2010 11:35

Will is too close to Willy for my liking . But Bill is nice.

jellybeans · 10/03/2010 11:41

I like Will but not William, and it is just fine on it's own. Many kids these days just get the shortened version. 'Willy' would put me off abit in case he gets that or Bill but then any name could be used in that way.

bridewolf · 10/03/2010 16:07

my sons names are william robert, and when he was a baby he was a cute 'billy bob', as he grew older he was always a william.
once he hit 9 onwards Will, was , well , more him.

now a teen, and is always a Will outside home, he is a william with me and his dad.

i think Will be a good name all his life, but did like the idea of bill when i picked the name. did meet a very nice old fella called Bill.

but Will is more keeping for him really.

charley24 · 10/03/2010 22:08

Lovely name and would have been DD2's name had she been a DS !

Makes me think of a strong man, popular and good looking (No idea why as the first Will to come to mind is Will Young)

I just always think it's 'cool' !

liliputlady · 10/03/2010 22:37

As for middle names, Will Alexander sprung to mind.
