After going round and round in circles with baby girl names, the one thing we've always said is the middle name should be May after MIL (it's her middle name).

Now I'm actually thinking it would be quite pretty as a first name, with Maisie as a NN when she is litle. But I'm due at the beginning of June! Do you think it would be weird to call a baby May when her birthday is actually in June, or is that just me thinking about it too much...?

I think its fine. There are a lot of children called Holly who aren't born at Christmas. Who knows...baby may come early and then it will all be fine

It is bad to call a baby "May" if she was conceived in May - ie Feb born. I think it's a little odd to use the name for a baby born in May. I think it's fine for June baby.

I know someone born in March called "June" - her whole life, she has been teased about her conception being in June.

I'd do it. I know a ton of July/August Holly's. May is a very pretty name and makes me think of Spring not just the actual month.

I think it would be worse to call her May if she was born in May, tbh. That would suggest a distinct lack of imagination (which of course you are not guilty of, but it might look like you were)

I know an April who was born in May, she just has to put up with people thinking her birthday is in April no-one has ever said anything else about it.

It's a lovely name whenever you are born. And do use as a first name - it's overused as a mn but I have not come across any little Mays in this neck of the woods.

(I honestly don't think you would get the same problem as 'April" because May is more of a known name, despite being under-used. One of my great-aunts was May and I never wondered if she was born in May)

LOL I wanted to give DD May as a middle name as it was my grandmother's name (well it was Mary but known as May).

She was born in June as well. DH vetoed it (can't remember why now!). But I don't see it as a problem.

It's a very short name tho - do you have a longish surname? What I mean is, May Smith sounds a bit stark, while May Whittaker sounds much better.

I think it's fine, May has other meanings than just being the month. But have you considered June as a name? Because it's just struck me that I really rather like it for a June baby!

gagamama · 08/03/2010 09:55

(But obviously you couldn't use May and June together, and May is a personal name for you, so ignore me!)

teafortwo · 08/03/2010 10:03

LOL - We are the other way round to you...

My dd's middle name is my Grandmother's name...

My dd was born in May and my Nanna's name was June!!!

... GO FOR IT - May is a lovely name!

gagamama - I knew two sisters years ago who were called April and May - I'm quite sure if there had been a third she would have been called June.

I think, correct me if I'm wrong here, that Daisy Duck's 3 nieces were called April, May and June...
