I have been thinking about this name for a while and it has really really grown on me. My husband is unconvinced and thinks it's not a name for anyone under, say, 50...

Anyone any thoughts?

sorry for double post!

ChoreDodger · 03/03/2010 13:11

I like it. I like names that are attractive and strong.

ChoreDodger · 03/03/2010 13:12

what's the time of year got to do with liking Esther?

Bessie123 · 03/03/2010 13:12

Love it

FoxyRevenger · 03/03/2010 13:22

I wasn't sure either, ChoreDodger, but I'm thinking Easter?

Not that I'm due until June so it doesn't really matter....

ChoreDodger (fine name!!) - this past weekend was the Jewish festival Purim, aka the Feast of Esther. All about how Esther saved the Jews from being wiped out etc etc.

loobylu3 · 03/03/2010 13:24

I think it's is fine for a baby but it is not too my personal taste. It sounds v serious to me and not all that feminine/ pretty.
If you love it, go for it

Bessie123 · 03/03/2010 13:24

Goddammit, really? I missed Purim? I am the worst Jew ever.

AnnieLobeseder · 03/03/2010 13:25

Bessie - no hamentaschen for you!

Bessie123 · 03/03/2010 13:27

I really wanted to make hamentaschen for dd and dress her up etc. Boo. I am rubbish.

Do you think 2 is too young to do the questions at seder night?

AnnieLobeseder · 03/03/2010 13:31

As long as she can talk, then I guess she's not too young to do the seder questions. Possibly with lots of coaching and bribery.

Have Purim a week late! It's always important to dress up and eat hamentashen!

Bessie123 · 03/03/2010 13:33

Thanks, Annie. I will make hamentaschen this week and focus on being proper for the seder. Might even make it to shul at the weekend (steady on...)

Sorry to hijack the thread.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 03/03/2010 14:05

I like it a lot

ChoreDodger · 03/03/2010 14:55

oh thanks for that. i live and learn. it's a gradual processs!

mathanxiety · 03/03/2010 19:53

It's so not an old lady name -- tell your DH. Esther shared the number 17 spot with Abigail for girls' names in NYC in 2008.

5DollarShake · 03/03/2010 20:09

It is an old lady name to me, and I am not keen on them.

But plenty of people seem to love this name, so go for it if you like it!

DorotheaPlenticlew · 03/03/2010 20:11

I like it, but DP has strongly vetoed it for us. Seems to divide opinion.

hildegarde · 03/03/2010 22:28

Very pretty, I love it. It's sort of soft and airy. I don't associate it with the elderly in the slightest.
