My friend's cousin's name is Remy, she is about 22 y.o

CinderellaRach · 03/03/2010 15:19

I've heard it's meant to be a boy's name but to some it must sound like a unisex name

It's a great name, imo, and it goes really well with Ellis. It can be a surname there are apparently a lot of families with the surname Remy in Canada, so it fits in with Ellis from that angle. It's more usually a boy's name but it can also be used for girls however, it's unusual in either case. It means 'from Rheims' of 'of Rheims'.

Thankyou mathanxiety great advice.Made dh read it and now think we've finally agreed on something!!

Remy is a French boys' name. I've never heard of it as a girls' name. I know a three year old Remy (boy). I think it's quite nice and unusual in the UK.

I hope people don't think of it as a 'Chardonnay' name!Oh God...

I don't think it's an obvious link, though. And it's not exactly plonk. As for children in remedial class, sadly they are mostly known as rt*ds from my observations.

RHL · 05/03/2010 21:06

I'm a teacher, believe me Remy would forever be taunted with Remmie as in remedial class. Not good!

oobs · 05/03/2010 21:23

like tia makes me think of maria, remy makes me think of martin

CinderellaRach · 06/03/2010 17:25

I wonder if all teachers would think that?Or is it just certain schools or certain areas?

I've never seen Ratatoullie and I still thought of the rat first!

Then Martini!

mabble · 06/03/2010 20:55

Remy LeBeau is Gambit in the X-men comics/films.

CinderellaRach · 07/03/2010 21:04

I haven't seen Ratatoullie!Or X-men for that matter..I liked it cause it didn't remind me of anything!Just hope people don't think I've named my son after a lovely drink!

If you are french or your OH is then it's a very nice name.

Otherwise it is mega-poncetastic IMHO.

CinderellaRach · 08/03/2010 12:50

Thanks FanjolinaJolie!I was thinking the same thing until I discovered Remy is English derived from Remington and it's Remi which is french. So without being french still okay
