asking from the states about UK girls' names

We're expecting a girl this spring and are debating some names that come up more in the UK than here in the States. I'd love to hear how these names are perceived across the pond - how popular, stylish (or not!), what you associate with them, nicknames you hear, etc. Thanks very much!

Rowena
Harriet
Henrietta
Maisie
Clare (this spelling is less common in USA)

Rowena is ok, I'm not very keen on it myself.

Harriet is a gorgeous name, the best of your list.

Henrietta is just awful, nothing remotely pretty about this name.

Maisie is nice but I like all the cutesy little girl names of this ilk.

Clare is a nice enough name but a bit boring.

lol at Tierrah!!!!
All your names are beautiful
I have known people with all these names
Harriet-my ggm!was high on list for dd but chose Joanna
Maisie-Julie Walters daughter [and my dog]!
Rowena-a lovely friend of mine and my favourite from your list.
Clare....just Clare[not special imho]
Henrietta[known as Hetty]very posh but sweet.

LaundryLyne · 07/08/2010 11:15

I like Rowena, Maisie and Clare. Harriet is OK, not so keen on Henrietta.

NiceCuppaT · 07/08/2010 11:29

Prefer Rowan to Rowena
not keen on harriett but love nn hattie
henrietta not keen but nn's hennie, hen, etta and again hattie are all lovely
clare is boring and makes me think of a thirtysomething...
