It is not an acceptable first name.

minipie · 23/02/2010 11:05

As in Place?

rubyslippers · 23/02/2010 11:05

place ...

what about Melissa - so pretty and very underused

or, Marissa

CherryPie3 · 23/02/2010 11:06

I like it.

mopsyflopsy · 23/02/2010 11:06

I haven't heard of any boys named Melrose before, but I don't see why it can't be a name. Nothing offensive or strange sounding about it, is there?

Is it Scottish?

Bonsoir · 23/02/2010 11:06

My DD has a friend called Melissa, shortened to Milly.

mopsyflopsy · 23/02/2010 11:07

For a boy or a girl?

ChynaDoll2006 · 23/02/2010 11:09

For a girl

Reminds me of the terrible girl off America's Next Top Model who was called Melrose and a complete bitch. Also Melrose Place - trashy American soap. It also sounds like the name of a business rather than a person to me.

So that'd be a no from me then

ChickenInABasket · 23/02/2010 12:49

Oh yes that awful top model woman! She made up the name melrose as her real name was not "original" enough (think it was melody rose or something like that.

Awful made up name IMHO.

AllieW · 23/02/2010 19:56

Not in the least bit convinced, sorry. Too much like a surname and too American-sounding for my taste as well. Melanie or Melissa hyphenated with Rose might not be too bad. You could then have Mel-Rose as a nickname.

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 23/02/2010 19:57

Melrose is a town in the Borders. Why would you want to call a child that - unless you're doing a Beckham and conceived it there...

pointysayhiphip · 23/02/2010 19:58

small town in the borders rather than a name
