which do you prefer?

DH currently likes Leonora as do our two DD's but i am totally inlove with Natasha Khan so that edges it for me....

Natasha is soooooo much nicer!
what would Leonoras middle name be?

Mongolia · 22/02/2010 23:42

Natasha

electra · 22/02/2010 23:44

Leonora - love it!

TheLoyalShepherd · 23/02/2010 02:42

Natasha - dd's middle name!

boodleboot · 23/02/2010 08:18

I think it would prob be Belle for both as middle name.

Leonora

are you pronouncing that LEE-oh-NOAR-ah, or len-OAR-ah?

I prefer it to Natasha though, either way

liliputlady · 23/02/2010 09:51

I vote Natasha.

StrictlyKatty · 23/02/2010 09:52

Wow I love both names. I rarely see a thread where I like both names

I really really don't like Belle though, so maybe that evens it out! Sorry.

minipie · 23/02/2010 10:54

Natasha definitely.

Not sure that Leonora has any nice short forms - Leo sounds like a boy and Nora is grannyish. Whereas Tasha I think is lovely.

Bonsoir · 23/02/2010 11:04

Eleonora

madly · 23/02/2010 13:45

Leonora is such a beautiful name. Love it!

Cortina · 23/02/2010 14:47

Leonora, beautiful, underused, classic, travels well in Europe.

I also think that Leo and Nora are cool short forms.

I think most prefer Leonie/Leona as they are less unknown.

To me 'Eleonora' sounds very 'of the moment' and a variation on the Ellie/Ellas etc that abound.

passionberry · 23/02/2010 15:14

Natasha is my favourite name ever but it was totally rejected by DH and my mother!! So I would say go for Natasha (do it for me!)

I am not sure on Leonora - is it pronounced "leo" or "len" ora? And surely nicknames would be Lennie or Nora which I don't really like.

Maleeka · 23/02/2010 15:36

Natasha

boodleboot · 23/02/2010 18:23

I already have a ten year old Ellie {wasn't at all popular back then.... still she LOVES it what is what really counts} so Eleanora is totally out. I am still drawn to Leonora and i actually think that Nora and Leo and quite cute NN in them selves....better IMO than Tasha which i really dislike as a shortening for Natasha but it is so inevitable isn't it....

I love them both, much sympathy going your way . Isn't Natasha a Russian pet form of Natalya?

boodleboot · 23/02/2010 19:34

no idea max.....why is naming children sooo hard?? It was easy with my other two....i loved james and i loved ellie so there is was....i swear it is harder because of MN....both a blessing and a curse this topic haaaa.

Is Sasha a pet form of Natasha or am i just wishful thinking?

{i really don't like tasha...i just see the big tashes on those 118118 dudes....}

mathanxiety · 23/02/2010 19:42

Sasha is a pet form of Alexander, and sometimes Alexandra. I knew a Shasha once whose original name was Natascha (German). Maybe you could try Sacha as a nn for Natasha, but I think this is used more for Alexandra.

GothDetective · 23/02/2010 19:56

I have a 9yo Natasha who loves her name. I call her Tasha but all her friends call her Natasha.

Only downside I can think of is that it means something rude in Turkish.

pointysayhiphip · 23/02/2010 19:56

Prefer Natasha out of those two.

But I like Leonie.

AllieW · 23/02/2010 19:58

As I've said on the duplicate thread, I prefer Leonora with Leonie (pn Lay-oh-knee) and Leona as possible pretty alternatives. I have always disliked Natasha since it seems like a poor relative of Natalie/a.

Blanchet · 23/02/2010 21:34

Barack Obama's daughter Sasha is officially a Natasha, but the names aren't traditionally linked. Not sure where he got it from. Natasha, however, is a nickname from Natalia (in Russian, obv. it is used as a full name here!)

boodleboot · 24/02/2010 10:22

yikes....what does it mean in Turkish goth???

OP posts:
GothDetective · 24/02/2010 10:32

Apparantly it is a very rude slang word for a European prostitute. There is a book called the Natasha Diaries about it. My name means "Blow Job" in Greek so we're a right pair. Not off to Cyprus for a holiday thats for sure.

boodleboot · 24/02/2010 12:19

oh man. that is pants. I don't think i am going to give this baby a name. too much agonising....
