if no can you please tell me why you dont like it.

not going to get huffy just like to hear why people dont like a name.

i.e if its because the annoying snotty nose lid down the road is called that it wont be a problem for me

I'm really surprised by how many people think it's a really modern name in a similar vein to wayne, dean etc...

Caleb was a character in the Old Testament who was an army general considered to have great strength of character in the face of adversity.

I have one though and don't consider it remotely chavvy in any way but obviously am totally biased!!

TotallyUnheardOf · 22/02/2010 20:27

Is your surname Major?

"I have called the boy Caleb in accordance with your wishes..." (= Major Major Major Major: Catch 22).

Kinda liked it when I was pg, but couldn't use it because of this association. (Not that my surname is Major, but it just made me go a bit .)

But as no-one else here has mentioned it maybe this is just me...

TotallyUnheardOf · 22/02/2010 20:28

That is to say Catch 22, of course! [d'oh]

AllieW · 22/02/2010 20:30

I love it! And it's definitely not a modern trendy name in origin but rather from the Hebrew Scriptures as someone else has mentioned. I'm not allowed to use it though

stripeywoollenhat · 22/02/2010 20:31

i really like it, but also have the unfortunate buffy association

ThatVikRinA22 · 22/02/2010 20:32

caleb is a biblical name so just about as traditional as it gets, but i like it. it also happens to be my DH middle name, after his grandfather who was a Caleb.

Magicmayhem · 22/02/2010 20:34

Really love it, nephews name.

101damnations · 22/02/2010 20:48

Love it,but dh didn't and we had girls.

I've never come across a Caleb.

purplefish · 22/02/2010 20:54

How on earth could Caleb be seen as being chavvy??!! It is a Hebrew name and it is so lovely! How could it be possibly compared with names like Wayne???

DS is called Caleb and he is NOT a bad boy, he is very sweet and lovely!

fuzzywuzzy · 22/02/2010 21:08

It reminds me of a tv series, american gothic, possibly why it I don't like it terribly!!!!

utterly irrational but there we are.

PearlyDewdrop · 22/02/2010 21:16

Cayleb is a great name, people are so scared these days of anything that isn't a single syllable, the pet name trend surely has to end soon. Why does everybody want to call their kids names you'd give cats or goats?

Maria2007loveshersleep · 22/02/2010 21:35

I see why people think it sounds modern, even though its an old Hebrew name. It does have that trendy American-teenage-boy feel to it. However, despite all that, I really really like it.

Why do people think it brings up a bad boy image though? It doesn't to me at all.

eastendmummy · 22/02/2010 21:49

It doesn't sound bad boy to me at all either although as our ds is named after his great, great grandfather then it never had any of those connotations when we chose it. Also ds is the least bad boy child you could ever meet so he's not living up to that perception at all!

If you really like it, then go for it. It's not weird or so unusual and it's easy to spell which for me was a big thing as I've spent the last 30 years correcting people's spelling of my name and it drives me bloody nuts!

completelyshotpelvicfloor · 22/02/2010 21:55

It's a no from me. It's in vogue at the moment and I think that it will date badly - will be obvious that he was born in 2010.

ellesabe · 22/02/2010 22:17

Doesn't it mean 'dog' in Hebrew?

ThatVikRinA22 · 22/02/2010 23:12

no. it doesnt mean dog

www.babyhold.com/list/Hebrew_Baby_Names/Caleb/details/see here]]

my DH is in his 40's and like i say it was his grandfathers name - really cant see how anyone can say this name will "date"?? the name Caleb is as old as the hills. like my dh.

I don't like the sound -leb on the end.

birdofthenorth · 23/02/2010 09:43

I think it's gorgeous.

Doesn't remind me of Jayden/ Kayden or similar made up modern names at all, it's Hebrew and timeless!

minipie · 23/02/2010 11:01

Reminds me of Caleban, so I would expect a Caleb to be mean and troublemaking.

I also find the -eb ending rather clumsy.

But I don't think it's chavvy...
