A weird thing has happened - this is on our baby name list, and since last week, three people have suggested it as a possible name. I like the synchronicity.

I know it's posh, and does have the Leadbetter/Good Life association but I don't think that'll be too relevant in the future... I'm just not fully won over yet. I do love the possibility of the nickname Peggy.

Already have a DS called Arthur. Does it 'go' as a sibling name?

And what would be a good middle name? I had thought possibly Margot Maude.

Mumsnet verdict?

I like it a lot.
I think it 'goes' perfectly with Arthur.
I think you could get away with a longer mn, especially if your sn is only 1 syllable. I do love Maude though.

Maria2007loveshersleep · 21/02/2010 19:54

Margot is a beautiful, elegant name. Go for it! Reminds me of a lovely friend of mine whose name it is. Unusual enough to be interesting but not posh at all IMO.

I don't like Maude though as a middle name. Maybe something longer?

Margot Evelyn?
Margot Elizabeth?

mummyloveslucy · 21/02/2010 19:55

I really like it, although it is very, very posh. I think it goes very well with Auther.

Margot Grace, Margot Rose, Margot Jane.

Love Margot and it definitely goes with Arthur. I'm glad you've gone with the traditional spelling, too. Margeaux does nothing for me.

belcantwait · 21/02/2010 20:00

i LOVE it. and am in fact just a teensy bit because obv i love dds name but margot is right up there. lovely with arthur imo

Blanchet · 21/02/2010 20:25

I really like it, love the sound of it. Not many girls' names end in 'o'. I've never really thought of it as posh, but I've heard that from other people. Maybe the Margo spelling is less "posh"?

boodleboot · 21/02/2010 22:05

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Margot and know one who was called Miggy as a little girl....its on my list too....

randomimposter · 21/02/2010 22:09

I know a fabulous Margot in her twenties; she's great, as is the name.

LOVE it with Arthur (which is a BRILLIANT name). Not sure it flows that well with Maude, which I DO like as a name in itself.

Margot Genevieve?

Maria2007loveshersleep · 21/02/2010 22:10

Margot Genevieve is too French.

Margot is a lovely name all on its own. Not sure why one would shorten it to Miggy or Peggy?

seeker · 21/02/2010 22:14

I love Margot, but won't it be a bit difficult to say with Arthur?

"MargotandArthur - supper time!!!!"

Wow, I admit to being quite surprised at how positive the comments are!

The other name I love is Clementine - would Margot Clementine work or is that just too much?

My next two babies will be Arthur and Margot if I get my ways (DH not sold on more babies yet) - all pronounced the French way, with a nice rolled "R" [strippey shirt emoticon]

MrsHappy · 21/02/2010 22:38

Oh I love it.
DD1 would have been Margot, but DH insisted on pronouncing it like a German (which he is) with a hard T at the end. Too horrid.

MrsHappy · 21/02/2010 22:39

Margot Clementine (pronounced Clemen-teen not Clementyne) is nice too and not too much at all.

harecare · 21/02/2010 22:51

It's my middle name. Easily misspelled as magot (maggot). I kept it a secret all through primary school as I thought I'd get teased because of the good life. It got out at secondary and I was teased for about 2 days - all day! But then I guess I just got over it.

notanumber · 21/02/2010 23:14

I went to school with a Margot who was - yes, harecare - nicknamed Maggot.

Suffice to say, she hated her name and when she went to university she changed it to her middle name (Alice) and never looked back.

This is so weird... have been thinking about using Margot for our one, due April, with middle name Elizabeth.

Just ran it by some (honest!) friends yesterday and got the thumbs up

DS's name is Jack, which I know is very common (both senses of the word) but I just like it. Now, it seems, we will go with the posh end of the spectrum.

Will everyone be confused, I wonder?!

LovelyDear · 22/02/2010 02:04

i love margot too. it immediately makes me think of my fave childhood book, my family and other animals (and 'fave' really doesn't express just how much a wanted to LIVE in that book)

Vivia · 22/02/2010 10:05

It's perfection!

Maria2007loveshersleep · 22/02/2010 10:16

I love Margot Elizabeth. Love it love it love it. Go for it 14hours.
