My sister went to school with a Jessamy. Was ok- both her and her older sister were nice enough.

Maria2007loveshersleep · 21/02/2010 15:18

Please. No. Sesame street.

Maria2007loveshersleep · 21/02/2010 15:20

(meant that it rhymes with sesame & he will be teased. Does it though? Is that the correct pronunciation?)

humptynumpty · 21/02/2010 15:23

where i live, there are lots of people called Jessmay, seems to be pronounced Jezz-may.
Not really sure about Jessamy, does it rhyme with sesame? or is it Jess-ay-mee?

GibbonInARibbon · 21/02/2010 15:37

Sorry, don't like at all.

MrsKitty · 21/02/2010 15:49

I'd probably pronounce it JESS-a-mee. I think it's quite pretty. Is there an actress with the name - I'm sure I've seen it recently?

MalloryKnox · 21/02/2010 15:55

hate it

shockers · 21/02/2010 16:06

I'm not keen.

Elena67 · 21/02/2010 16:07

it's a boy's name, isn't it? It is in the Georgette Heyer novel I read, tho I admit that's not exactly empirical evidence!! Nice name either way.

Bumperlicious · 21/02/2010 16:24

Prefer Jessamyn.

MinnieMude · 21/02/2010 17:06

reminds me of jessabelle

Blanchet · 21/02/2010 17:55

Oh, I love it! I used to know one and just thought she had the most beautiful name. There's also Jessamine, again another form of Jasmine.

The only worry is pronunciation because it's quite unfamiliar to many people. I remember the Jessamy I knew trying to explain her name to a new person: "Jessamy." "Jessica?" "No - Jessamy." "Jess... sorry?" "It's like Jess, then Amy." "Ohhh, Jess-Amy?" "No, JESS-a-mee!" etc. etc. etc. Could get tiring.

Blanchet · 21/02/2010 17:57

Elena67 - think I flicked through that book - I think that it was a nickname for that boy, because 'jessamy' used to be a slang word meaning a dandy. This is because jessamy is an old English word for Jasmine. So, no, I don't think it was in use as a proper given name for boys.

Tortington · 21/02/2010 17:58

nah. Ds knows a Jessie May - said as a full first name - rather american i think but it's nicer.

Mulchee · 04/01/2012 05:49

I think its a lovely name. Quirky, but still classic.

like it quite a lot, i know one girl w this name no one seems to find it hard to pronounce, nice and not too commonly used.

EdithWeston · 04/01/2012 08:36

Jessamy is very much a boy's name to me (another Georgette Hayer fan!)

I wouldn't use a well-established boys name on a girl.

I wonder what OP chose?
