"It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks."

Yes, it's not like your choice might have any impact on anybody else's life or anything...

sunshiney · 16/02/2010 21:44

Thanks all! Glad for some positives, got a pasting here last week when toying with 'Bailey'!

dh adamant though this boy will be called Mojo. Hopefully he's only joking.

right back at you. What you bloody snipping at me for?

It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks of your name choice, imo. If you like it and think it's a good name, then it's up to you. What your mum, dad, neighbour, postman...think of it is irrelevant. Is what I meant.

And I realise you are talking about the child itself.

I know a Tarquin who hates his name.
I know a Jane who hates her name.

You can't ask them at birth what name they'll like.

skidoodle · 17/02/2010 13:42

No, but you can and should think about what reactions the child is likely to get to their name and factor that into your decision making.

It's not about whether somebody ends up liking their name, but whether it causes them problems throughout their life.

Elsa123 · 17/02/2010 14:49

Anyway! So, how is Django pronounced?

bronze · 17/02/2010 14:56

DifferentID hes Jango Fett no D

mathanxiety · 17/02/2010 15:39

Cool name.

shoobidoo · 17/02/2010 15:44

I like it! Very cool and unusual.

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 17/02/2010 15:44

No - it sounds like fanjo

OtterInaSkoda · 17/02/2010 16:09

IIRC Elsa, it's pronounced "Jango", to rhyme with tango.

I like it muchly. Very cool.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 17/02/2010 16:53

It's very Boden . Which depending on your view of Boden, may be a good or bad thing

< mysterious>

I have no idea how it's pronounced, and I imagine lots of other people wouldn't, too

Jamieandhismagictorch · 17/02/2010 16:55

Oh, I see -It's Jango

OtterInaSkoda · 17/02/2010 17:05

Noooo, not Bodeny. Is it? I'd imagine a Django to have hippyish muso parents.

bluecheesefiend · 17/02/2010 17:05

we have a Jango in our family - we love him!

Jamieandhismagictorch · 17/02/2010 17:09

Otter - muso, but not hippyish. Django would have a surfey blond hairdo, be very good at skate -boarding, and ride a Chopper

Jamieandhismagictorch · 17/02/2010 17:11

(I got the Mini Boden catalogue through the door today)

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 17/02/2010 17:14

Agree, Jamie

Django Fanjo would have parents who advise on green policies for a living, a holiday home in Devon and a iguana as a pet. He would definitely go to private school, but one where the emphasis is on the arts and non-competitive sports.

Cadelaide · 17/02/2010 17:19

Never heard of it. Kind of reminds me of "fanjo", as someone else has said, but outside the world of MN I guess that would be OK.

Is there an "outside the world of MN" anymore though? It's everywhere.

sweetsherry · 17/02/2010 20:05

It'd be OK as a middle name. How about Beau as a first name?

OtterInaSkoda · 18/02/2010 11:27

Bojangle?

LC200 · 18/02/2010 18:15

I went to uni with a guy called Django. He was a bit of a prat, but the name is very cool.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 18/02/2010 18:21

I may be confusing it with Jago, which is also Boden-ish

DoNotFeedMeBiscuits · 19/02/2010 12:28

Noddy Holder has a son called Django Jack. I was in his sister's class at school. I will, therefore, forever associate this name with Slade.

LuciaRose · 19/02/2010 14:26

It is quite cool (love Django Reinhardt), although not my particular taste. It is very trendy to give your son a name ending in -o ie. Milo, Arlo, Ivo, Jago, so I think it fits in well with these - and is slightly more unusual.

sonniebonnie · 19/02/2010 14:29

I like it. Sounds cool.
