What do you think? Is it bit too much of an old cockney knees-up-mother-brown name?

It's okay. I wouldn't choose it personally as it sounds so old fashioned. Good old traditional name though. For a boy I presume?

hester · 14/02/2010 23:32

I like it - think it's becoming quite trendy.

mummyjackson · 14/02/2010 23:33

Yes, for a boy!

Fine name for a boy! Can't stand it when girls are called it. I think you'd get away with it these days as older names are coming back into fashion.

DuelingFanjo · 14/02/2010 23:37

I love love love it. My Grandad was called Sydney with a 'Y' and I would have it as a strong contender on my list of names for a boy.

jasper · 14/02/2010 23:42

great for a boy

mummyjackson · 14/02/2010 23:55

My problem is, is that I can't say it without a cockney voice! I can't imagien someone with a posh voice saying it, so I worry that it's a bit common sounding :S

I love it.

I actually know a baby "Sid" and he really suits it (and is v. gorgeous).

I think its a rather trendy name nowadays.

I have a Sid

We get lots of 'Vicious'? and I grin and nod.

Not met another one yet though although there's a lot of little girls called Sydney around here.

juneybean · 15/02/2010 02:13

Yes for a girl lol

mumoftoomany · 15/02/2010 07:32

My niece is a Sydney, so for me it's a girls name.

AllieW · 21/02/2010 12:39

My Dad is called Sidney and since I don't get on with him, I find that a bit too much of a block, although that's a personal thing. Sidney doesn't have to be purely cockney, what about Sidney Smith? (www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/A5866987)

Fourleaf · 22/02/2010 10:16

My DS was nearly called this but in the end DH decided it was a bit of a 'joke' name... I didn't agree but neither of us were crazy about Sid. I love the full name though.
