Girls names not ending in 'a' or 'ee'

HalcyonDaze · 14/02/2010 09:58

Can anyone suggest any girls names that don't end in 'a' or 'ee' sounds?

So far the ones I've come up with that I like are:

Beatrice/Beatrix
Juliet (and other 'et's....Harriet, Violet, Bridget)
Imogen
Mirabel (and other 'bels'....Christabel, Isobel)
Hazel

Any other suggestions along these lines?

Your list looks like mine because I had the same criteria!

I came up with

Juliet
Vivien
Hazel
Rachel
Annabel
Christabel
Eloise/Lois for short
Imogen
Margaret (with Margot for short)
Elizabeth
violet
Ellen
Florence

I don't like some of those as much as others, but I like your starting set of criteria!!

Also,

Marianne
Maribel

Not keen on Mirabelle, bit fussy, but simpler forms are classic and elegant.

Ruth, Niamh, Kate/Katherine, Iris.

Kate, Lucy, Alice.

Ruth, yes! I love Ruth. Everybody made faces at Ruth when I was pregnant, but it's beautiful. I also like Faith.

Grace and Joy of course..... neither ends in an a.

Just did a mental run-through of my 1980s class at school:
Helen (lots)
Susan/Sue (lots)
Jane
Ann
Margaret
Carol/Caroline)
Rachel
Joyce
Charlotte
Faye
Abigail
Frances
Fait h
Ruth
Ingrid
Louise
Elizabeth
Catherine/Katherine/Kathryn

...hard to think of any ees or ahs amongst the lot!

Lancelottie · 14/02/2010 14:51

Smac, you've reminded me that we also had a Ros(alind) and Jennifer, and also a Siobhan and Sian.

Still no eees though. I wonder if that's amore modern trend?

Pingpong · 14/02/2010 14:59

forever was pretty thorough with her list but those 3 sprung to mind.
I really like Rosalind but it's too similar to my DDs name so can't use it.
My class at school also had those sort of names lancelottie but also Sarah Sally Susie Mhairi Kirsty Fiona Hannah type a or ee sounding names as well.

Wow, loads to go on there!

hewasmytwin - DD1's name ends in 'a' and DD2's name ends in 'ee' so I wanted something different this time.

All OH can come up with is Tamsin but I'm not sure. I like it in principle...heard it used on a little girl in the park a couple of months ago and thought it sounded pretty but I really don't like the nn Tammy.

I do like a lot of the 1 syllable names too but our sn is mono syllabic so they tend to sound a bit abrupt.

Thanks for everyones suggestions so far

It's been mentioned before on Baby Names that Tamsin is too close to tampon to risk it.

cyteen · 14/02/2010 19:27

Ingrid
Roxanne
Medea
Karen
Joan/June/Jean
Iris
Maude
Clare

I love Rosalind, that was my first thought on reading your OP.
