Think I'm getting there with naming a girl!

I am 30 weeks pregnant now and still going round in circles with a name if its a girl. I have boys name sorted now!

What do you think of Romy Iris? I really want Iris as a middle name and have fallen in love with the name Romy although I know it's usually a nickname I'm not as keen on any of the full names its short for!

So opinions please. I already have a Matilda, with nn Tilda.

Thanks

I haven't heard of Romy

am not sure about it

I do like Iris a lot

DorotheaPlenticlew · 08/02/2010 14:15

Sorry but I don't really like Romy at all. Iris is lovely though.

What is Romy short for? Romola?

Ivykaty44 · 08/02/2010 14:15

I am realyl sorry but not keen

Like both names on there own - but not together as it makes it sound there is something worng with her eye

wilbur · 08/02/2010 14:16

I know a Romy - short for Rosemary. I like it.

fairimum · 08/02/2010 14:17

I like it!

matimum · 08/02/2010 14:18

ha ha to something wrong with her eye, I hadn't thought of that!

Romy short for Romola and Romilly I guess. Do quite like Romilly but wouldn't like it if ever shortened to Milly

Romilly Iris flows far better than Romy.

SoupDragon · 08/02/2010 14:23

If she's always had the nn Romy (as your other DD has Tilda) then "Millie" shouldn't be an issue.

DorotheaPlenticlew · 08/02/2010 14:29

I reckon you can steer people away from Milly if you want to.

Always think it best to go with a full name rather than nickname-only version ... gives the person more choice as to how they'd like it used when they grow up.

Agree that Romilly Iris flows really well. I think Romy Iris sounds a bit clunky, and although I know the eye thing was a joky comment, that poster has a point - it has the rhythm of an adjective/noun combination to it.

matimum · 08/02/2010 14:32

Thanks for your comments, I can completely see where you are coming from! I do like Romilly so will try that out for a while, Would be distraught if I ended up with a Tilly and a Milly though, lol!

I love Romy, but not with Iris as a mn.

ShowOfHands · 08/02/2010 18:16

I like Romy and Romilly. Like them a lot actually.

I also have a Mathilda (nn Tilda) and love the name Iris.

Are you me? If yes, where did we put the thermometer?

ja9 · 08/02/2010 18:20

I taught a lovely Romy. hadn't heard of the name before but since found out it is a nn of Rosemary. v nice.

MaggieTaSeFuar · 08/02/2010 18:23

I like Rosemary with nn Romy. That's lovely. not mad about Iris as a first name but it's a good middle name

I think Romy is a pretty name. My dd had a friend who went to Australia, she pronounced it "Rommie"; is this your version or is it "Roamie?" But I do think Romilly Iris go well together rather than Romy Iris.

SE13Mummy · 08/02/2010 19:57

We liked Matilda but already have a Harriet who goes by Hattie... DD2 wasn't called Matilda because we didn't want to run the risk of Hattie and Mattie/y.

In the future you won't be able to determine the nicknames your daughters choose to call themselves by so if you're concerned that you may end up with a Tilly and Mille it might be a good idea to avoid Romilly.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 08/02/2010 20:02

Romy is increasing in popularity where we are - might it become the Evie/ lexie of it's generation?
