DH floated Harvey as a possibility this morning. What are your views?

I quite like it and we were previously thinking Henry so it's not a huge departure, but perhaps more modern.

The only thing that puts me off is Jordan having one!!!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Paolosgirl · 07/02/2010 16:18

Your last sentence says it all unfortunately! IMVHO, it's a bit, you know...

MadameCastafiore · 07/02/2010 16:19

CHAVTASTIC!

momofnearly2 · 07/02/2010 16:20

I actually don't know any boy's called Harvey.

I do know a few dogs called Harvey though which kind of put's me off the name slightly. Only slightly though.

Paolosgirl · 07/02/2010 16:26

Took the words out of my mouth, MadameC!

wordsonascreen · 07/02/2010 16:35

Oh dear lord no.

Henry is a really great name - agree with everyone.

Harvey is a dreadful name.

SixtyFootDoll · 07/02/2010 16:53

My DS is HArvey and I love it

LittleDonkin · 07/02/2010 17:37

My 9 year old nephew is Harvey and my sister was GUTTED when Jordan called her son it! I do love it though!

weegiemum · 07/02/2010 17:39

to me, Harvey is a 8' tall white Rabbit as 'Harvey' (old Jimmy Stewart film) is one of my favourites ever.

So whenever I meet a Harvey I think "hey, you look rather small and human to be called that!"

But just me.

beccagrace2 · 07/02/2010 17:48

harley is better than harvey but henry is the best

SixtyFootDoll · 07/02/2010 18:09

Harvey is a traditional name, Jordan used it as it was her grandfather's name
I liked it from when i used to watch 'Shine on HArvey Moon'!

Ziggurat · 07/02/2010 18:50

Harvey and Harry are worlds apart.

Do not like Harvey at all - to me, Harvey is a middle-aged man with a mahoosive pot-belly, drinking a can of lager and belching copiously.

SixtyFootDoll · 07/02/2010 19:06

Harvey to me is a blond haired six year old boy, full of fun and i love him.

mummyjackson · 07/02/2010 19:22

I wonder if people would have the same opinion of it if Jordan hadn't named her son Harvey?

I don't dislike it and have met some really lovely little Harveys!

Paolosgirl · 08/02/2010 13:12

Possibly - but then I hear Harvey being screeched down the shoppin' cen'er often enough by Jordan wannabes to make me dislike it.

stressheaderic · 10/02/2010 12:00

Plenty of Staffordshire Bull Terriers called Harvey round 'ere...

mummyjackson · 10/02/2010 12:10

Middle classes still use Harvey so I would not say it's only used by the c people. 10 years ago it was in a similar vein to something like Felix!

mummyjackson · 10/02/2010 12:13

Btw there was a really AWFUL family in the supermarket the other day and the little boy was a little yobbish and his name was... Rufus! Really made me LOL as it wasn't expected. Could have been spelt Roophus though ;)

Jamieandhismagictorch · 10/02/2010 12:19

I like it.

But then I have a Charles (Charlie) and that's apparently Chavvarama

mummyjackson · 10/02/2010 12:21

Charlie is really not at all! it's one of my faves - lovely name.

Bucharest · 10/02/2010 12:59

Charles/Charlie are not "chaverama" at all.

But like Zig says, Henry and Harvey are universes apart.

(I don't like either, for different reasons)

Jamieandhismagictorch · 10/02/2010 13:17

Thankyou for your kind words Bucharest and mummyjackson.

I don't really care - I'm more annoyed how popular it became after I named him - due to Charlie and Lola I think, I was deliberately going for a fairly unusual name.

Maybe I am just very fashion-forward

Bucharest · 10/02/2010 13:24

I think possibly the Charlie/Charles thing is thanks (believe it or not!) to the Royals. Somehow a name used by the Royals is never, no matter who else uses it, going to end up on the chavometer.
