What do you think of James?

Would probably shorten it to Jimmy or Jim. Is Jimmy too old fashioned. Also will be living in Glasgow and don't like the 'uch aye jimmy' aspect of it.

Would give him official title 'James' for naughty times. DD1 is Rebekah but we call her Bekah or Beks. Though in school some people call her Rebekah and others Bekah. Dd2 also has a name that we shorten too.

If he decides he doesn't like Jimmy then he can call himself James.

At the moment it is the only name me and dh can agree on.

Any opinion on the name James greatly received.

Love it. James is a fantastic name

colie · 06/02/2010 14:14

Can't call him Jamie as Dh not keen on it.

My closest friend of nearly 30 years ,has a son called Jamie and he is my god son so Jamie is a big no, no. He is actually registered as James but noone calls him James and she has admitted she has never ever referred to him as anything other than Jamie.

So, I am hoping she will be ok about me using the name James.

Thanks for replies.

Jim or Jas are nice nicknames

colie · 06/02/2010 14:20

Hadn't thought of Jas. Thanks pranma. I also like Jim.

James is often abbreviated to Jas when it is written. My grandad used to sign himself,Jas.G.Smith and I always thought it looked great.[He was known as Jim though].

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 06/02/2010 14:28

Love it.

Bleatblurt · 06/02/2010 14:29

James is a fantastic name. [mum to a James]

EssenceOfJack · 06/02/2010 14:40

I love James, it would have been my first choice if I had had a DS.
Luckily I had DD's though as my surname is Bond

Wolfblass · 06/02/2010 15:13

I love James, but not keen in Jimmy or Jim (or Jamie for that matter), but James - simply fab!

Rindercella · 06/02/2010 15:17

James is fine. Just a word of warning, literally every other 2 year old boy I know is called James. Jas is a cool nickname though.

aseriouslyblondemoment · 06/02/2010 15:25

i think james is a lovely boy's name
it's timeless
my james is also known as jay

stressheaderic · 06/02/2010 15:32

I think it's a bit boring, sorry. Same as John to me, a bit unremarkable.

Love it, dp is James most his friends call him Jim, his Dad is James and everyone calls him Jamie. Ds3 middle name is James, cousin called James too everyone calls him Jay or Jay Jay

colie · 06/02/2010 17:30

Thanks ladies.

Dh has just told me he is not keen on James now or Joseph which was a close second.

Back to the drawing board.

Rindercella - what part of the country do you live in? I am in Merseyside and two dd's don't have any James in their school or preschool.

The fact that I didn't think it was quite as popular now was making it more attractive to me.

Agree. Don't get all the fuss over James at all.

Colie, we're in Oxfordshire and know lots of James(es?). But also know lots in London.

Sunshinemummy · 06/02/2010 21:22

I don't mind James but I do love Jim - it's a great nickname.

colie · 07/02/2010 10:07

Well, thanks again everyone. It would be my first choice but not to be now. Don't think I know of anyone under the age of 21 with the name James but maybe I just don't listen.

themildmanneredjanitor - I love the name Luke but others have said in Glasgow (where we are moving back to) some people pronounce it Look. Also think it would go lovely with two of my daughters names which are Rebekah and Eve.

Not keen on Henry (bit posh for me). I like Jack but very popular, every 2nd boy I know is called Jack and I love Alex. I love Alex for a boy or a girl. Though sonographer thinks it is a boy. I have spoken to Dh about Alex and he is not keen.

Dh is really getting on my nerves laid back about the name thing. He keeps saying we have another 4 months and is all calm about it, well not calm enough to stop veteoing names I like
