sounds like the name of a train or a truck

i bet eddie stobard has a christabel truck

wern't the carriages on thomas called christabel - and they were mean

MadamInEdenImAdam · 05/02/2010 00:20

Thomas's carriages were Annie and Clarabel. I actually prefer Clarabel

Christabel is ok.

SpeedyGonzalez · 05/02/2010 00:20

I think it's sweet. Isn't there a book: The Battle For Christabel? Hmm.. title sounds slightly ominous but I love the name.

clarabel - thats right - god that takes me back

i quite like clarabel actually

mathanxiety · 05/02/2010 05:33

Christabel is lovely.

Those Pankhurst gals had stylish names (Adela, Sylvia and Christabel). Not to mention Emmaline, their mother.

thumbwitch · 05/02/2010 06:02

I like Christabel as a name, despite reading a Very Old story (Girls Annual c. 1900) about a mean girl called that - she got her comeuppance and became nice, iirc.

champagnesupernova · 05/02/2010 06:32

It's a bit of a mouthful
Also ENglish writer who lived in Germany during WW2 Christabel Bielenberg (her life story got turned into a Dennis Potter tv drama starring La Hurley)

nowwhatdoido · 05/02/2010 06:50

I adore this name, it's my fantasy girls name. I'll never be able to use it though. Well, no more babies for a start, and it sounds terrible with our surname. I would shorten it to Christa or Christie.

I've loved it ever since the Dennis Potter drama.

overmilkwood · 05/02/2010 07:17

I love Christabel and Christiana and the nn Christy or Chrissy are gorgeous

boodleboot · 05/02/2010 08:22

I like it....very pretty and Christi is a lovely NN....i know a GORGEOUS Christi....

Blanchet · 05/02/2010 09:42

Pankhurst. I remember in the Adrian Mole books, it was on Adrian's mum's list for baby Rosie, alongside Germaine (for Greer)

It's quite a nice name, I like Christie for a nickname (or of course you could go with Belle/Bella).

crumpette · 05/02/2010 09:49

Hate it, but seems I am in the minority!

onlyjoinedforoffers · 05/02/2010 09:58

it sounds like a cows name as in moo

passionberry · 05/02/2010 13:38

It is also quite a scary poem by Coleridge with all sorts of repressed lesbian fantasy/shape-changing demon weirdness! I love it for that reason BTW, but DH would never have it.

Skegness · 05/02/2010 13:41

No, not for me.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 05/02/2010 14:23

Great connection to Pankhurst but otherwise I dont like it that much and would personally spell it christabelle as it seems a little masc the other way.

PollyTechnique · 05/02/2010 14:34

Absolutely love it! Lots of NN possibiities too.

CuppaTeaJanice · 05/02/2010 15:01

Too much like Tinkerbel for me. A bit twee and princessy.

I like Christa, Christina, Christine etc though.

sophieandbelly · 05/02/2010 15:14

i think sounds very chavvy, same as cuppatea prefere christina

SqueezyB · 07/02/2010 10:19

It sounds just like a Spanish boys' name - spelt Cristobal I think. If I heard it I would assume you were Spanish and DC was a boy, sorry!

LaDiDaDi · 07/02/2010 10:20

Too sweetly simpering for my taste even though I know about the Pankhurst connection.

momofnearly2 · 07/02/2010 10:23

I hate it! Sorry.

Sunshinemummy · 07/02/2010 10:26

I quite like it.
