Is it too late to say no to Clark?

FWIW - I did laugh (whilst fully recognising the misery that real allergies bring etc etc) at G & T Maxim and his allergies

StillCrazyAfterAllTheseYears · 01/02/2010 20:21

Sadly, that is the inescapable truth here. For every child with serious, life-threatening allergies (which I don't mean to disparage at all) there does seem to be a Maxim who is simultaneously "allergic" to dairy and fond of cheese sandwiches.

babyingram · 01/02/2010 20:24

I think this has gone a bit too far now.. manslaughter?

Maggie's apologised, I'm sure she didn't mean to offend mothers of kids with allergies. She was just descibing what sort of parents she imagined Xaviers to have.

Paolosgirl · 01/02/2010 20:30

Hey - no offence taken here at all! DS1 had a major anaphylactic shock to egg at 18 months of age. Incredibly scary - but not to the point of accusing anyone who makes jokes about Maxim's allergies/intolerances/whims of his mother's of manslaughter. I mean, honestly

BalloonSlayer · 01/02/2010 20:38

Um sorry Paolosgirl you are grossly misquoting me!

Maggie said that her BIL claimed to be allergic to nuts and had an epipen. She didn't believe him so fed him something with nuts in.

I am saying that feeding someone something that they have told you may kill them, would be manslaughter if it did indeed kill them. Why is it so awful to point that out?

I don't know how old your DS but when he gets to school and other kids start trying to put things he's allergic to in his food "for a laugh" I don't think you'll find it all quite so funny.

jollyma · 01/02/2010 20:43

If you're looking for something unusual how about Django?

Paolosgirl · 01/02/2010 20:46

DS is 12 now - and at no time did I say that it's funny to put anything in someone's food, so please don't put words in my mouth.

NotAnOtter · 01/02/2010 20:50

Clark is great
strong handsome masculine as well as sweet

but then i always loved Clark Gable

go for it = reuben nice but popular

motherbeyond · 01/02/2010 20:55

My apologies Paolosgirl.

You also put words in mine.

But am I really the only person here who thinks it's appalling to feed someone something they have told you may kill them?

I cannot overemphasise how upset I am by this.

I worry myself sick about what will happen in the future to my DS. The idea that someone will decide that he is being precious and deliberately feed him something he's allergic to in the hope of proving a point terrifies me.

Ha ha. It was on my husbands list but was a definate NO for me! He had Masha for a girl on the list, I let him use it for the dog so it would be ruled out for any future ds's.

Not sure about Clark BTW. How about as a middle name?

BalloonSlayer · 01/02/2010 21:02

motherbeyond I am really sorry to have done this to your thread.

My post above I hope explains my strong feelings.

BTW I quite like Clark. Clark Gable was pretty tasty.

Am leaving thread now

MaggieTaSeFuar · 01/02/2010 21:08

Balloon, at the end of that post I said "white flag?".

I can't believe the way this thread has turned out. If I hadn't known my xbil very well, well enough to know that he was full of munchausens bullshit, then I wouldn't have done it. Anyway, he's alive and well I assure you.

And seeing as you ignored my admission that I'd made a bad joke, and my request for a truce (white flag?) I might as well go ahead and tell you that you are missing a very important point here. If there weren't so many people going around pretending to be allergic to things then when people were genuinely truly allergic to something it would be taken more seriously than it is.

THere is a kind of cumulative 'cry wolf' syndrome in effect with allergies now. Every second person claims to be allergic to something. And they're not at all.

I think you imagine I go 'round trying to trick children into eating nuts. This is obviously an issue which is overwhelming you, but it is not MY fault tbh. I am totally supportive of anybody whose child has a real allergy.

AGain, I can't quite believe I am having this conversation on a names thread....

BrigitteBardot · 01/02/2010 21:16

What's wrong with Irish names Two4One? and what's an ultra-Irish name? How prejudiced...

Yes, it's become a weird old thread, that's for sure. One innocuous post and whoosh - off it goes. Ho hum.

Still don't like Clark, Reuben, Zander or Xavier, but love Hugo. And Maxim. Just without the allergies

lockets i do not at all believe it but...if i search hard enough there was a piece in torygraph last week about adult 'allergies' HUGE proportion were not actually allergic - shockingly big

Paolosgirl · 01/02/2010 21:35

No, I fibbed a bit there. I watched Rebecca last night and Maxim was played by Charles Dance who I do like - a lot. I think I may have been swayed a bit, temporarily!

picklemum · 01/02/2010 21:39

to get back to the OP, I love 'Clark' as a name. It would suit boy, baby and adult.
Is male, friendly not too common or unusual. Everyone would know how to spell it. I'd like to call a boy of mine that if I hadn't stopped at 3.

Love it.
