What do you think?

Been told it's too "American"

It sounds nice to me. Is it pronounced 'Tarin'?

Where does it come from and what does it mean?

Spidermama · 31/01/2010 22:54

And is it for a boy or a girl?

misdee · 31/01/2010 22:56

can be either apparently

TimothyTigerTuppennyTail · 31/01/2010 22:58

I used to know a Tarryn, she was really lovely. I don't think of it as being American.

Spidermama · 31/01/2010 22:59

Hmm. A 'modern invented' name is a bit worrying.

Heeka · 31/01/2010 23:01

I had a horse called that once...

Squishabelle · 31/01/2010 23:02

Dont like it much at all.

pinksancerre · 31/01/2010 23:02

I know a Taryn and she is in her thirties, so has obv been around a while.
I think it is nice

Heeka · 31/01/2010 23:08

Actually, was spelt 'Tarran' - meaning 'Thunder' in Welsh, so probably irrelevant to you!

Botbot · 01/02/2010 08:49

My mum' best friend at school was one (spelt like Heeka's) and that was in the 50s.

MaggieTaSeFuar · 01/02/2010 08:57

I used to know a south african taryn. She would be mid to late 30s now.

I don't really like it though.

SoupDragon · 01/02/2010 09:04

Taryn is a Welsh boys name isn't it?

Blanchet · 01/02/2010 12:06

Looks very made-up and downmarket to me, and yes, American too. All their trendy names seem to end with "yn" at the moment! Sorry. Also I would have no idea what gender a Tarryn might be. And it would probably be heard as "Darren" a lot of the time...

Bathsheba · 01/02/2010 13:34

I know a Taryn - she is Australian...

TheBlasphemousShadow · 01/02/2010 14:51

I know of a couple of girl Taryns here in Ireland - I think it is becoming a modern Irish name. It does appear on a few Irish baby name sites too... Example of meaning of Taryn

I think it's a pretty name.

Blanchet · 01/02/2010 14:57

Hmm... This site says Taryn is "A name invented by actors Tyrone Power and Linda Christian for their daughter."

www.namenerds.com/irish/modern.html

Though I believe Tara means "hill" (?), maybe that's where the other site got the meaning from?

I do think Tara is much, much prettier.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 01/02/2010 14:59

I don't generally like made-up names, but this one I like. Sounds Welsh

I do prefer Tara Though

megonthemoon · 01/02/2010 15:08

I was at school with a Taryn who is now in her 30s (maybe the same one pinksancerre knows ) I prefer that spelling to the double r, but prefer Tara infinitely to either!

momofnearly2 · 01/02/2010 16:04

Thanks all. The double 'R' is actually a typo.

It was supposed to be Taryn. And yes for a girl!

Hullygully · 01/02/2010 16:05

I know a Taryn in her 40s. It's a great name.

BedtimeBear · 03/02/2010 13:34

The only one I know is a Taran, and he's male.

Taryn is nice for a girl... I'm sure there is an actress Taryn Manning who was in that god-awful Britney Spears film (But I'm fairly sure only I would know that!!)

Tarryn77 · 15/05/2010 11:50

My name is Tarryn spelt with the double 'R' and its not made up. I am 22 years old so i have been around for a while. I think its a great name. :-)

sapell3 · 15/05/2010 12:03

It's quite nice.

mayanna123 · 15/05/2010 12:49

Taryin is lovely for a girl.
