Indigo, for a boy?

Hi, I loved this name to start with, but then caught whiff of the 'indigo children' concept accidentally quite late down the line. Husband doesn't seem to care, but I think this is a little naive!

How well known is 'movement' and is it mostly restricted to the US? Is it particularly known in the UK?

I am concerned (putting all other comments about the name aside) that it could eventually become a by-word for kids with learning or behavioural difficulties, which is only slightly worse than a by-word for children whose parents think they are some kind of elevated being.

Any thoughts - I don't have long!

kids will take the p out of any name/anyone if they want to...john...william...indigo...!
[unfortunately] Choose a name u love and use it, does it really matter what anyone else thinks?

Hmmmmmm...I love Indigo but everyone I say it to frowns and looks like they hate it - I would hate my child to feel that too about his own name...so even though I LOVE it I am thinking maybe something more sensible - like Zachary...shame though!

Actually best thing is NOT to ever ask anyone what they think of a name - my best friend didnt tell anyone the name they liked for thier little girl and when she was born they called her Xanthe - so so pretty but also different - if they'd told people I'm 100% they may have not chosen it because of people saying they werent sure...

There's a boy at my college called Indigo Poole (yes). My cousin's middle name is Inigo, I like both, but I think Inigo is more unusual if that's what you're looking for. Some people pronounce it "In-ee-go" and some say "In-i-go", so there can be some degree of confusion.

Sorry, but I think it's an awful name to inflict on a boy.

LemonDifficult · 13/04/2010 12:28

Indigo is too girly for a boy. Colour names just seem to be girl names IMHO.

Zoidberg · 13/04/2010 20:18

A girl's name, imo and that of the parent's I know who've named their DD Indigo.

Effjay · 13/04/2010 20:22

Don't like Indigo - I think he would be teased a lot about it at school. Also, a bit girly ...

APassionateWoman · 13/04/2010 20:23

I know a bit about the Indigo movement and it is totally barking.

It's a silly name, sorry.

Someone said they thought my DS was an Indigo Child when he was a baby. When I found out what they meant I thought they were mad.

Indigo is ok if you like earthy/hippy names. Similar type of name to Sienna or Rowan maybe? I prefer Inigo tho, I know a lawyer called Inigo Bing and it doesn't seem to have impeded him in life at all.
