What do you think of this name? Is it sweet and classic, or too trendy?

I really like it. But it will be a matter of moments before someone spells it Elouise. I only know of one Eloise under 10.

Thanks, I didn't realise Eloise might be drifting towards the trendy - I guess it is really another variation of the Ellie group of names.

I love it and it has been my first choice for a girls name since pg with DS1 4 years ago. However, there are so many Ellies at the moment that I'm not sure whether I'd use it now. All hypothetical for me anyway (for now...!)

eliza is a HOT name atm and there aren't many around - we are considering it for future dds!!

eloise is one of our two names if we have a girl, i dont think its chavvy at all!!

I love Eloise. It came a close second to what I called my DD.

Also love Eliza but it's too close to what DD is called to be able to have it for any future DDs.

Prefer Louisa/Louise/Eliza/Elise. Not a huge Eloise fan i am afraid!

My DD is an Eloise - and is definitely not an Ellie. It is definitely not a popular name round here, and definitely not a chavvy name round here either. In fact, (and I have made this point before), its not chavvy because it is a name used by all social stratas of society - from royalty down to normal people, just like you couldn't say 'Victoria' is a chavvy name - just because of the negative "Vicky Pollard" type chav associations. There are too many different types of Victorias / Eloises to be able to categorise them all as Chavvy. In fact, the only Eloises I know are distinctly middle class.

Love 'Eloise' by the Damned. Prefer Elise as a name - less chance of becoming, ahem, the 'ch' word.

maybe its just the one in ds' class who is the epitome of chavdon - Juicy tracksuits and Ugg boots every day without fail

I never thought of Eloise as chavvy - more upper class/slightly arty, European (probably because of the book. I know Ellie is very popular now, but I'm not sure of the class connotations.

ok, i have just realised that the european pronounciation sounds fine - it's just not how the chavvy mums pronounce it round 'ere - they say EloUise which i really object to

I love it pronounced in the French way it's very pretty as in Heloise as in Abelard & Heloise x
