Any opinions or would it be too Fawlty Towers?

We are struggling SO much with boys (as my other thread shows!), but this was my great grandfather's name (we've resorted to going through the family tree for inspiration).

I like Basil. Certainly not common.

southeastastra · 25/01/2010 11:55

too foxy

bargainhuntingbetty · 25/01/2010 11:55

No I presonally dont like it. But its not my baby

shoobidoo · 25/01/2010 12:05

I quite like it. Especially if it special meaning for you, being your granddad's name.

mopsyflopsy · 25/01/2010 12:16

Didn't think of Fawlty Towers.. but then haven't watched it in years...

I think Basil is quite nice (as long as you don't have an Ivy or Rosemary as well).

Hullygully · 25/01/2010 12:17

Sybil. Irredeemably, inextricably, eternally.

LedodgyChristmasjumper · 25/01/2010 12:19

Baziiiiiiiiiiiiiiiil too fawlty towers sorry.

LedodgyChristmasjumper · 25/01/2010 12:21

I even say it like that when i'm adding Basil to anything in the kitchen so there'd be no hope for me if I called a child it.

arsebiscuit · 25/01/2010 12:26

Don't mention the war!

OrmRenewed · 25/01/2010 12:27

I used to work on an organic gardening mag. The proprietor was called Basil. He was inevitably called Organic Basil. I must admit I didn't think of Fawlty Towers more than once or twice.

he was a git as it happens.

mopsyflopsy · 25/01/2010 12:30

Even if people initially think of Fawlty Towers when they hear the name, they will soon associate the name with your son.

Boom, boom.

Is actually what you need to do to your head, against a hard surface.

PanicMode · 25/01/2010 13:49

I hadn't even thought of the Basil Brush connotations....that coupled with Basiiiiil (LedodgyChristmasjumper I do the same actually!), and the NN Baz, which I hate, has killed it.

So, we're back to Magnus I think!!

I have a friend called Basil, he really likes his name.

cumbria81 · 25/01/2010 15:58

Beyond awful. Poor child.

KAEKAE · 28/01/2010 21:16

Basil Brush....sorry

sazzerbear · 28/01/2010 21:18

Basil is a nice name but loving Magnus much more!!!

gagamama · 29/01/2010 09:40

Reminds me of, in this order: the herb, the fox, the Fawlty Towers character, and then (maybe just cos I'm from Essex, innit) Basildon.

weegiemum · 29/01/2010 09:42

I'm showing my age now as it makes me think of "I am Sir Basil, the King of the Herbs" from "The Herbs" which was on tv when I was little!

Or Fawlty Towers.

Magnus is nice!
