Flower Names- do i buck the trend?

Hi

I have two dd's both with flower names, rosa and daisy, and am now pregnant with girl no'3. do i continue with the flower theme or do i buck the trend and call her something totally un-flora related?
ooh i've just thought she could be called flora! ah ha!
I just dont want her to feel left out if i call her something like polly (or what ever)for instance.
My parents, and two out of three of my sisters names begin with A except for one of my sisters who's name begins with M and who concequently feels 'left out'.

What d'ya think?
Any good names appreciated too!

Anthea = Anthea Turner.

Toffeepopple · 24/01/2010 22:30

I think Heather is a wonderful name and also Hazel and Iris.

My friends daughter is Lilian, called Lily for short. That's quite nice.

LadyBee · 24/01/2010 23:22

Briar

LittlePushka · 24/01/2010 23:29

I'd stay with the floral...delightful!

Sorrel was my choice for DC 1 who is DS1!

shockers · 24/01/2010 23:32

Briony or Rowan... I think they both travel into adulthood well too.

shockers · 24/01/2010 23:33

travel well into adulthood...

nooka · 25/01/2010 02:27

I think a whole set of obvious flower names could be terribly twee, so if you want to do it make sure that you use names that people don't immediately think "ahh a matching set" so Iris, Anthea, Jasmine, Alyssa, Zinnia not Poppy, Lily etc (esp if your Rosa is ever known as Rosie).

CarmenSanDiego · 25/01/2010 05:06

I agree with nooka. Go with an 'unobvious' flower or plant name. What about Sorrel?

Ianthe means violet too.

Cloris is another 'goddess of the flowers' name but a bit close to Clorox if you're American Xeni is another flower goddess name.

I also like Hazel, Snowdrop and Rowan. Oh, and Snowdrop!

skidoodle · 25/01/2010 05:13

Iris = iris robinson

Albertine · 25/01/2010 06:26

I too think it would be twee if you decided to do it just for the sake of it. Pick a name you love. I think your future daughter might feel more left out if her name is chosen just to fit a theme when her sisters' names were chosen because you love them.

diddl · 25/01/2010 08:08

Like Briony.

One of my fave names is Hebe.

telsa · 25/01/2010 08:59

A less obvious flower name would be good, I agree. Maybe one of these! Oleander, Primula, Sorrel, Ulma, Verbena, Xylia, Yolanda, Crina, Cliantha, Delphine, Floriane, Jacinda, Kiri, Kezia, Lori.

Pingpong · 25/01/2010 09:08

'sets' of flower names just makes me think of Jamie Olivers daughters.

boodleboot · 25/01/2010 11:30

I really like Zinnia....or Amarylis is very pretty to say and written....Lis for NN?

GibberingGinger · 25/01/2010 12:49

I like cityangel's suggestion of sticking with botanics not just flowers as it seems less obvious. I also like names that don't alliterate with siblings names (makes it more definite which one you are calling for if the syllables are completely different)

Rosa, Daisy and Hazel
Rosa, Daisy and Violet
Rosa, Daisy and Willow
Rosa, Daisy and Fleur
Rosa, Daisy and Laurel

...all work really well in my opinion. Hazel and Violet are my favorites

shockers · 25/01/2010 14:03

I like Fleur best from that list.

Dumbledoresgirl · 25/01/2010 14:08

I know everyone laughed at it when GingerSpice named her dd Bluebell, but I think that is a lovely name. Though maybe only for a girl born in spring.

mathanxiety · 25/01/2010 15:18

I love Keziah and Laurel.

pixiestix · 25/01/2010 15:26

I was coming on to say buck the trend and that three flower names would be a bit Jamie Oliver - but then I saw loads of cracking names on this thread! Am converted!!

I would go for something a bit more obscure or perhaps plant-like though - Rosa, Daisy and Poppy would be a bit much IMO

Sorrel is fab, may steal that myself actually!

fruitstick · 25/01/2010 16:28

but Jamie Oliver was actually naming My Little Ponies though wasn't he!

SpringHeeledJack · 25/01/2010 16:35

What about Sylvie?- it means woods, iirc

or Ivy?

reckon you need a bit of foliage in with your little blossoms

I still wish I had had te neck to give my twins flower names. One is pink and the other very white- should have caled 'em Lily and Rose

every time I see them in the bath I kick self

Jamieandhismagictorch · 25/01/2010 16:36

Iris

CheerfulYank · 26/01/2010 03:07

Oh, Laurel is quite pretty I think! And I really like Willow but haven't the cojones to call a child that...

boodleboot · 26/01/2010 08:49

I actually think that Bella is the nicest match with these two names....Bella, Rosa and Daisy.

pranma · 26/01/2010 20:33

Holly
Erica[Latin for Heather]
Tansy
