I love it. DP not so sure. Long-ish surname, but two short middle names which need to be included. Already have a Joseph (Joe)...

For a boy or girl? Reminds me a bit of Romchi (nickname for Roman), or Rommy (nickname for Romilly).

DrivenToDistraction · 22/01/2010 14:03

It's a girls name isn't it? I quite like it. Prefer Romilly though.

How about Romilly NN Romy?

daisyj · 22/01/2010 14:05

Lovely! Could be short for Romola or Romilly, both of which are near the top of our list for next (as yet unconceived ) dd, with Romy as a shortened form.

Short for Rosemary?

BedtimeBear · 22/01/2010 14:20

Short for Rosemary is how I had seen it, but not keen on Rosemary. Do you think it can be a name on it's own, or does it have to be short for something? (I have a short name, and have always quite liked that is couldn't be shortened/made into NN, IYSWIM?!)

i like it but prefer Romilly - Romy reminds me of mil's dog, sorry.

Northernlurker · 22/01/2010 14:23

I think it's pretty dreadful as stand alone name. Ok as a short

mathanxiety · 22/01/2010 14:44

I also think of Romy Schneider (whose real name was Rosemarie Magdalena). I love it as a stand alone name.

legallyblond · 22/01/2010 15:03

I know two girls (now women!) with Romy as their given name. One is South African, other is v posh aristocratic English (she's actually a Lady Romy....)

I LOVE it.

legallyblond · 22/01/2010 15:06

Oh and, personally, I MUCH prefer Romy to Romilly (which doesn't seem like a proper name to me and is a rather nasty town on the outskirts of Paris, but hey, if that rocks your boat... )

RustyBear · 22/01/2010 15:06

There's a girl in our Y4 called Romy - two syllable middle name, single syllable surname, sounds nice.

juneybean · 22/01/2010 15:07

Makes me think of Romy and Michele lol
