What do you think of Ronan?

I really like the name Ronan and the meaning but am a bit worried that it's forever linked to Ronan Keating? Would you think I was a fan? No concrete Irish connection and living in England too if that matters.

All these 'connections' diminish over time - the name will just be linked to your ds in the minds of you and your family/friends. If you like the name then don't be put off.

MavisEnderby · 18/01/2010 18:34

i like it.

alternative could be Rowan

sorryaboutthedodgyname · 18/01/2010 19:14

snap, i like ronan but worry about people thinking i have a crush on mr keating, also like rowan untill someone pointed out thats mr beans name

trying to get dh to consider roman

pointysaysrelax · 18/01/2010 19:19

nice name

MrsJordanCatalano · 18/01/2010 19:53

Rowan is nice but it does make me think Mr. Bean and the Archbishop of Canterbury.

I need to stop associating names with people and it would be a lot easier!

I'm just the right age for a Boyzone fan, i'm sure some people will think i'm a fan but as long as it's not most people I can probably brazen it out.

It's a lovely name but unles you're irish people will always think you are a boyzone fan. DS probably won't get the mick taken out of him at school or anything, but you might get sick of people assuming you named your child after Ronan Keating!

How about Conan?

fortyplus · 19/01/2010 21:17

WOT??? Conan the Barbarian that'll be then?

crumpet · 19/01/2010 21:21

I knew someone called Roman which suited him

mathanxiety · 19/01/2010 21:48

Ronan Keating will be old hat by the time your DS goes to school. Ignore the naysayers -- it's a lovely name.

we had Roan as a choice for DD2 if she was blue as wasn't that keen on Ronan. I still love it if you would consider that as an alternative?

MrsJordanCatalano · 20/01/2010 17:45

Roan is really nice actually and it's a bit more masculine than Rowan.

I have considered Roman and then dismissed it as too Russian but it's probably more on par with a name like Luca which anyone can use.

Roan/Roman/Ronan....

I think if it wasn't for Keating then Ronan still edges it, I did tell a few people I was going for it and all 3 laughed and said after Keating though .

Roan much much better imo, I still love it 3yrs after DD2 popped out pink in flavour

has the same meaning as Ronan/Rowan etc

Ziggurat · 20/01/2010 20:17

I really like the name Ronan. OH, who's Irish, vetoed it.

My neighbour called her baby Rowan and it's actually really cute on him.

Babies grow into their own names and you lose previous associations completely.

LetThereBeRock · 20/01/2010 23:37

I like it.

spookycharlotte121 · 20/01/2010 23:40

I think its a nice strong name does make me think of keating but I dont think that really matters if you like it.

Now if you were thinking of Britney that would be a different matter all together

(waits for someone to pop up and say "my dd is called Britney")

RedbinDippers · 20/01/2010 23:42

Rohan?

designerjooles · 29/01/2010 18:09

I like it - a friend of ours named their baby Ronan. We thought it was a great name. They are good ol' Irish Catholic though...

MaggieTaSeFuar · 29/01/2010 22:58

i prefer it to Rowan.

It is possible to be Irish and not catholic designerjooles. I am not catholic and would use the name Ronan (or any other Irish name that I liked).
