What do you think of this name? Also would you assume the child/parent was Welsh?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Bessie123 · 18/01/2010 13:01

I would assume the child's parent was a tit.

Sorry, but it's quite pretentious sounding.

sweetnitanitro · 18/01/2010 13:03

I was going to ask if you were Welsh before I clicked on the thread . It's unusual, not really my style. I like the nn Gwen though. Might it be a bit difficult for some people to spell?

MamaLazarou · 18/01/2010 13:04

Frankly, I think it's horribly pretentious - so sorry.

PuppyMonkey · 18/01/2010 13:05

Not very nice imho. I would assume you liked the King Arthur legends rather too much. Gwen is seriously bad.

stuckforname · 18/01/2010 13:06

If you like the Arthurian names, what about Elaine?

monetinjanuary · 18/01/2010 13:09

I actually like the nickname Gwen, and we've also been considering Gwendolen.

Couldn't give a fig about King Arthur, honestly, we're not fans of the whole Arthurian thing.

Nice language Bessie

Although beautiful sounding it's a challenging name for a child to have I would think, the sort that either forces them to get resilient earlier than they might or they learn to keep their head down. Happen to know a Merlin and know of what I speak!

Can you hear yourself calling "Guinevere" without being self-conscious in the supermarket?

Personally, I'd look at derivatives such as Jennifer, Gwen or even Genevra or Genevieve.

BaronessBarbaraKingstanding · 18/01/2010 13:18

How about Gwenyth?
I really like this.

Or Delyth?

Are we meant to be thinking welsh?
or athurian? I think I'm confused.

Guinevere suggests trying s bit too hard, but like the 'sound' of it IYSWIM.

shoobidoo · 18/01/2010 13:18

I quite like Guinevere - sounds feminine and elegant imo.

Don't like Gwendolen or Jennifer though.

monetinjanuary · 18/01/2010 13:25

We're neither Welsh nor King Arthur fans

It's the younger brother(!)'s name in Viz's Modern Parents, if that bothers you.

pandavark · 18/01/2010 13:31

i think its cool

auntycam · 18/01/2010 13:42

Guinevere is pretty

annasophia · 18/01/2010 13:45

I love Guinevere! There is one in my dd's class and she is lovely.

Lots of scope for nicknames too.

mejon · 18/01/2010 15:46

Gwenhwyfar would be the Welsh for Guinevere - I don't think the name is particularly Welsh.

boodleboot · 18/01/2010 20:16

don't listen to the naysayers....Guinevere is AMAZING.....its definitely on my list...Gwyn is a lovely NN as is Neve...be brave, your daughter will thank you for having a name that is so beautifully different to the swathes of Amelia's, Ruby's and Ava's that will be in her year....

nikkisbump · 18/01/2010 20:39

It reminds me of the Lottery for some reason! I have no idea why!

coldtits · 18/01/2010 20:40

guineapig

Bessie123 · 19/01/2010 08:59

nikkisbump because the lottery is run by Camelot

SqueezyB · 19/01/2010 09:14

I prefer Gwendoline or Genevieve
