I really like it, think it's very pretty and unusual, but husband thinks it sounds foreign. What do you think?

It's nice. Actually it's lovely but

whispers quitely I prefer Aviana. (or Avjana for the proper spelling)

fannybanjo · 16/01/2010 19:57

I love Ariana. It does send foreign but majority of names have foreign beginnings.

PestoSlushMonster · 16/01/2010 20:02

I like it, is it Greek?

MrsKitty · 16/01/2010 20:05

Nice. Aurora's good too.

Yes, it does sound a little 'foreign' but I don't think it would sound out of place.

Mones8Eva · 16/01/2010 20:38

I think it has various origins - Greek, Italia, Welsh and Afghanistani.

Does it seem hard to pronounce or spell, do you think?

Pronounced Ari-AH-na or Ari-anna?

MrsMattie · 16/01/2010 20:44

It's a lovely name. I know it as a Greek name.

Mones8Eva · 16/01/2010 20:45

It would be Ari-AH-na.

It's the middle eastern connotations that my OH is worried about - does that spring to mind when you hear/see it?

Why would Middle Eastern connotations be a bad thing per se? Not being arsey, just curious.

Anyway...not 'specially. I'd have thought more Greek, I suppose if I was pushed on it.

But to be honest my initial thoughts would be that it's slightly 'foreign' while still being familiar to me and isn't 'out there'. In the same vein as Eloise or Corinne for example.

Thank you, very helpful.

I think he just thought people might somehow link it with all the conflict in Afghanistan etc. which I thought was silly, but you know what men are like!

MrsKitty · 16/01/2010 21:25

I wasn't sure where I'd place it when I first read the name, but of the possible origins listed I think it sounds Greek over anywhere else.

dizzydixies · 17/01/2010 09:26

love it althought I would personally use Arianna so nn Anna rather than Ari if it were shortened

tis Dumbledores mother or sister in Harry Potter - I can't remember, but I know of 2 now

nikkisbump · 17/01/2010 17:27

I love it. It doesn't sound middle eastern to me. It sounds very pretty and it's different without being strange or hard to spell. Beautiful!
