to use the name Damian? Dont jump on me lol, I havent decided on anything yet, but 4th baby is due in 5 weeks and we still cant settle on a name, mostly because I love Damian and nothing else matches up. Does anyone have a Damian/Damien?

I think it is pretty much tied into The Omen.

foresttarotadmin · 16/01/2010 09:18

Yes I know and thats such a pain...I have seen the omen many times, but ultimately its just a fictional film. I looked into the background of damian and found he was the patron saint of physicians, hardly demonic.

All that aside though, I suppose its true people will still think the Omen regardless, I was kind of hoping someone might have a damian and can tell me what sort of responses they got.

Liz Hurley's son is called Damian.

It's a good, strong name. I wouldn't be too bothered about the Omen connection.

belgo · 16/01/2010 09:20

There is a new belgian saint called Father Damiaan.

foresttarotadmin · 16/01/2010 09:23

Thats part of the reason why I like it. I wanted a good strong boys name that was not in the top ten, or anywhere near it, but not bizarrely spelled, or easy to mispronounce. I just love it, but then I love my baby and wouldnt want to saddle him with a 'bad name'. Its so hard, as there is absolutely no other name out there that I like as much as this, any other name will always be second best.

Pancakeflipper · 16/01/2010 09:23

I know a little Damian and a big Damian.
If you love it use it - as ready said the Omen connection is fading now.

foresttarotadmin · 16/01/2010 09:34

There is only one other name that I like, but I know it will just be shortened. I like Nealan, its scottish like me and my dad is Neil. However I know it will be shortened to neil by everyone and I dont want that, so it kind of rules that one out too. At this rate this baby will be nameless.

Go for Damien! I'm not sure if it's Damien or Damian.

foresttarotadmin · 16/01/2010 09:44

I think it can be either, I suppose I was thinking if I spell it with the A, then some people might think..saint damian, rather than evil child damien. I dont suppose it really matters though.

My husband has said he is unsure, not a no, but wants to think abou tit, so if i do want it, I am going to have to work at it a bit.

He wants Wallace. Can you imagine that. Wallace Williams. Now that is a rough name to saddle a child with! Not to mention everyone would call him Wally.

OP posts:
belgo · 16/01/2010 09:50

Wallace Williams no no no!

Damian Williams - so much better.

foresttarotadmin · 16/01/2010 09:54

Tell me about it, the poor child. We just have such different tastes in names. The middle name is Ellis, so he would be Damian Ellis Williams if hubs will come round to it.

Better than Wally!

DS3 has a friend called Damien, they are the same age. The Omen has never come up.

belgo · 16/01/2010 09:55

Wallace Ellis is even worse.

Damien Ellis is fine. You need to get working on your dh to convince him of this!

foresttarotadmin · 16/01/2010 09:58

Well I think this thread could help convince him, as I know its mostly the worry that people will think 'satanists' or something.

Especially as our first son is called Mason.
(he was named this as I loved it and the men in my family are stone masons). However I received negative comments before Mason was born about calling him that when we live in scotland, but not a single one when he arrived. In fact everyone tells me how much they love the name on him, and I know they are being genuine.

belgo · 16/01/2010 10:03

Mason is another strong, mannish name, goes well with Damian. Absolutely does not go with Wallace.

Naelen is a good name as well.

foresttarotadmin · 16/01/2010 10:16

Yes thats why I wanted a strong mannish name for this boy too. To match with Mason, man whom works with stone, you cant really get much stronger than that.

Someone suggested Miller, but I thought Mason and Miller was a little bit too far...lol!

quasimomo · 16/01/2010 11:21

Do you like Damon? It sounds similar but obviously removes it from the Omen a little bit...

foresttarotadmin · 16/01/2010 11:23

Well I dont dislike it, but it makes me think of blur, or northern lights with the daemons in that. It also sounds to me more like demon or something evil than damian does lol. But on the whole I do still like it, just nowhere near as much as damian.

diddl · 16/01/2010 11:26

My asbsolute fave boys name is Hamish
Closely followed by Rufus.
Also like Niall.

I think Damian is fine.

foresttarotadmin · 16/01/2010 11:32

Aww now I do like hamish, but discounted that a long time ago as husband does not like it one bit. Always the way.

I am speaking to him about Damian, he is looking a bit more welcoming to the idea...

OP posts:
5inthebed · 16/01/2010 20:49

I think Damian is a fine name. It'll only be seen as the name from The Omen films by adults and not by children he will grow up with. If you like the name, go for it.

MrsMattie · 16/01/2010 20:51

I'd be more put off by the links to Liz Hurley's odd un little angel than by the 666 thing, to be honest

5inthebed · 16/01/2010 20:53

Does she still dress him like he is an orphan from 1910?

ShowOfHands · 16/01/2010 20:56

Damian Lewis.

Enough said.

Heated · 16/01/2010 20:56

Must confess I thought of Only Fools and Horses first and then The Omen! But also there's the actor Damian Lewis and the artist Damien Hirst.

Am siding more with your hb on this one, sorry!
