Peggy - nice but a bit Eastenders
Jean - nice
Sylvia - nice
Grace - fairly common now
Nancy - Oliver themed
Janet - rocky horror picture show themed
Audrey - very grown up name but travels well in europe - my favourite
Wendy - peter pan themed

SqueezyB · 15/01/2010 12:29

Peggy - cute, short for something or on its own though? Not my favourite in the list.
Jean - DD's middle name after a family member, still feels a bit middle-age woman to me though, sorry!
Sylvia - love it! Also love Sylvie
Grace - nice but v popular
Nancy - love it!
Janet - see Jean
Audrey - v classy - I think of Audrey Hepburn and Audrey Tatou, but be warned a lot of people will think of Audrey in corrie!
Wendy - hmm, not too keen

calebsmum · 15/01/2010 12:29

I really like Sylvia, Grace and Audrey. Agree with nickymorris that Peggy sounds eastenders.

MrsBadger · 15/01/2010 12:30

you are missing Susan, which trumps them all IMO

CuppaTeaJanice · 15/01/2010 12:33

Peggy - Su Pollard in Hi-de-hi
Jean - A middle aged woman with ample hips, makes jam
Sylvia - late 50s, chain smoker, plays bingo on tuesdays
Grace - Stuck up princessy ballerina type
Nancy - Plain girl, helps with the housework. No ambition
Janet - The office manager. Short mousy hair, lives on a modern estate and has beige carpet.
Audrey - Mousy woman, wears knee length gathered skirts. Does the flower arranging at church.
Wendy - Buxom lady, married to Trevor. Goes to weight watchers.

To be honest your whole list sounds like the rota for the coffee morning at the village hall, with the possible exception of Grace.

Sorry, not my cup of tea.

Peggy - Nice
Jean - Not keen
Sylvia - OK
Grace - fairly common now
Nancy - LOVE IT. Was one of our names for a girl.
Janet - rocky horror picture show themed
Audrey - LOVE IT, I know one little girl called Audrey and she is soooo cute.
Wendy - Lovely

peggy - makes me think of my aunty peggy who is about 80 and has one leg so gets called pegleg. and peggy out of mad men. i like it. there should be more peggys.

jean - i like it, know quite a few middle aged ones who all seem to be bitterly insecure. so hearing the name jean sounds to me like a stain plopping onto the evenings events. but i think on the right person its a good name.

sylvia - like it. obviously think plath right away. love the meaning of woods and forest, and i like silvia as well without the y.

grace - too godly and sweet for me

nancy - personally just dont like the sound of it. sounds like a middle class white american stereotype

janet - like it. thought of janet leigh. a bit bland though.

audrey - i think its lovely. reminds me of one of my favourite tv characters, audrey from twin peaks

wendy - rotten, sorry

Peggy
Jean
Sylvia
Grace
Nancy
Janet
Audrey
Wendy

Tbh, I find them all a bit dowdy 70s housewife, with the exception of Grace which in recent years has been so popular it's almost a kind of default name.

I like Nancy best.

Please do not saddle a poor child with Janet.

mathanxiety · 15/01/2010 15:27

Peggy -- nice as nn for Margaret
Jean -- too 50's, not in a good way, plain
Sylvia -- very nice, sophisticated name, grown up
Grace -- very popular
Nancy -- nice, makes me think of the word bouncy, sounds lively and friendly
Janet -- church ladyish, plain
Audrey -- sophisticated, v nice, grown up
Wendy -- fast food, little play houses, not a serious name

Peggy, Sylvia, Nancy and Audrey my favourites.
Have you considered Cynthia?
