Willow?

a name we stumbled across last night and we both really really like it. I know ultimately, it is up to us but just wondered what people thought of it as a girls name? DH says its a very pretty name. We wanted something unusual but nothing 'out there' strange!! And what sort of middle name to go with it?

really depends on your surname re a middle name but i think willow is pretty

boodleboot · 15/01/2010 11:01

My friend has just had a Willow Rose and she is scrummy.....

MamaLazarou · 15/01/2010 11:02

Lovely name. I can't use it, as my mum has a cat called Willow! Thanks mum!

bogie · 15/01/2010 11:03

I posted a thread on this a few weeks ago, I really want Willow Rose for dd (due march) but Dp doesn't like it.

Very pretty, very girly.

lucykate · 15/01/2010 11:03

there is a willow at dd's school, twins called willow and fearn, lovely names.

unfortunately, we could never use it as our cat is called willow. when we got the cat we were told it was a girl, chose the name willow, turns out he wasn't a girl, and was in fact a boy, so we shorten it to will.

I think it's lovely ........ so long as you can guarantee she will always be thin and willowy

Pancakeflipper · 15/01/2010 11:06

As Paisleyleaf wisely says - if there's a chance she might be a little chunky don't use it. A tubby Willow makes me smile.

My dd is Willow Rose, I didn't think the two names were such a popular combo as we chose Rose because of a family connection.

My Willow is tall and slim at the moment but I hadn't really thought about her name in relation to her build

Anyway, needless to say, it is a beautiful name, dd is the only one in her large primary school and people constantly comment on what a lovely name it is.

yellowflowers · 15/01/2010 11:45

I love the name Willow (though dh doesn't). Isn't there a character in Buffy called Willow?

Ondine · 15/01/2010 11:48

I like it, but agree if she's likely to be short and wide it's probably not a great idea.

SE13Mummy · 15/01/2010 12:16

It's a really pretty name although seems to be increasing in use round here (SE London).

PanicMode · 15/01/2010 12:57

I know of two - one school age, one fairly new. I think it's pretty, but it does make me think of N London Bohemian right on parents (probably very unfairly!).

I personally wouldn't have taken the risk in case my child wasn't stick thin - which is the same reason that Grace only got a fleeting thought - I was not terribly graceful as a child and it would have been excruciating to be the klutzy Grace in the class!!!

But if you like it, does it matter what we all think anyway

Hulababy · 15/01/2010 13:11

I think it is quite pretty.

stinkypinky · 15/01/2010 14:30

I am gonna call mine Willow if a girl. Not likely to be thin, but will be tall.

KERALA1 · 15/01/2010 14:45

Panicmode thats exactly what I was going to say . There was a Willow at school and the poor girl was rather dumpy and people would laugh about her behind her back. Vowed never to burden any daughter of mine with a virtue type name - Grace is another good example so baffled by its popularity.

MaggieMnaSneachta · 15/01/2010 15:55

it was nice, but then buffy ruined it so it became the C word.

i wouldn't worry too much about not being thin or tall though because willow is the tree, and willowY is tall and thin right?

HerbalHolly · 15/01/2010 16:20

We have Willow on our shortlist along with Angelica and Rosmary.

Cortina · 15/01/2010 16:28

If Willow is fake bohemian what's 'real' bohemian? Honestly interested.

MaggieMnaSneachta · 15/01/2010 16:31
