DC2 due next week. at my 20 week scan the sonographer said the baby was 'probably a girl', so i have a girl's name pretty much picked out. However, she could be completely wrong and i could end up with a little boy in my arms in a couple of days and not a clue what to call him!

I used to like v conventional boys names (Joseph, Joshua etc) but recently i've been thinking it would be better to go for something a little more unusual (but not weird).

Asked dd (nearly 4) what we should call the baby. She thinks Cupcake or Pretty if its a girl and Max if it's a boy!

I quite like

Laurence
Theo
and Max is actually growing on me!

Any ideas along similar lines would be most welcome...

Also might end up having Ronald as a middle name after my grandfather. Surname is v traditional english, ends with '-ward'.

Cupcake or Pretty! My 4-year-old niece suggested I call mine Jellybean.

How about Henry or Oliver?

totalmisfit · 12/01/2010 10:02

Jellybean's lovely!

Have a cousin Oliver (who's not someone i particularly want to pinch a name from, although i do like it...)

Henry is lovely, but as our surname begins with H, not sure how i feel about doubling up initials, might end up a bit 'enry 'iggins with our east end family!

Joseph is timeless.
Laurence is strong.
Theo and Max more of the moment.

Laurence with an H surname.

totalmisfit · 12/01/2010 10:56

Does have a ring to it, i'll give it that much...

bring on the names tho', i need inspiration!

Laurence AWFUL, SORRY
Theo GREAT
Max GREAT

How about

Zac
Niall
Joel
Sean

mathanxiety · 12/01/2010 18:21

Like Theo and Max, not Laurence.

skidoodle · 12/01/2010 18:25

I like Theo, Max and Laurence, in that order.

They are not really names of a type though, so it's hard to know what to suggest.

What about Elias? Unusual but easy to spell/pronounce.

ironlikealion · 12/01/2010 18:31

With the current vogue for Arthur, I rather like other medieval sounding names like Gawain and Roland and Geoffrey - all traditional but unusual these days

dizzydixies · 12/01/2010 18:33

Jonah
Coran
Roan
Reuben
Hugo
Hector
Xavier

I love Donald, not ready for Ronald again yet! Theo is ok.. I used to love it but I have gone off it a bit. I would go for just Leo. I think that's more classic, will date less, but there will be fewer his exact age.

ironlikealion, I like Roland! I would use Roly. I know of a baby Geoffrey. Nmsaa but Gregory is nice. Gawain is nice. Is that 'gowan' or gavin?

ironlikealion · 12/01/2010 18:34

oh and I am always trying to persuade people Fabian is a great name

MaggieMnaSneachta · 12/01/2010 18:45

It is! I really like that.

Recently thought about Jago for an unusual option.

natsmum100 · 12/01/2010 19:30

DS1 wanted us to call DS2 Noddy. Two years later he thought Squillie would be good middle name for DD, first name Millie!!

MaggieMnaSneachta · 12/01/2010 20:17

Jago is already very much out there though. In some pockets of London, Jago is mainstream.

MaggieMnaSneachta · 12/01/2010 20:17

sorry i thought this was the predictions thread. Jago is a lovely name.

Openbook · 13/01/2010 11:00

OOh sorry, I'm a middle aged northerner and everyone's called Jason up here !

motherlovebone · 13/01/2010 11:19

Joel

totalmisfit · 13/01/2010 11:30

jago always sounds a bit, um, derogatory to me, like Dago. sorry.

i love Jonah but dh wouldn't let me use it in a month of sundays (reckons he'd never be let on a boat, esp bad as we live by the sea)

Joel also nice.
