So, after various discussion with people, can I have some opinions on a revised "short" list (girls only - decided on boys):

Pippa
Natasha
Thea
Naomi
Camilla
Tessa
Beatrix
Harriet

My personal favourites are Camilla (love the nn Milla but couldn't persuade the other half!), Beatrix and Nancy.

Hope that helps?

Doozie · 11/01/2010 14:46

Just my opinion, but...

Pippa - Prefer Philipa nn Pippa
Natasha - no
Thea - like
Naomi - no
Camilla - parker bowles puts me off
Tessa - like
Beatrix - like, prefer Beatrice though
Harriet - no
Nancy - no

SqueezyB · 11/01/2010 14:49

i love Tessa and like Thea and Beatrix. None of the others jump out at me, sorry.

LaTristesse · 11/01/2010 14:49

I love all the N names actually. Only one I'm not keen on is Thea and that's just because round my way it'd get pronounced with an F. If mine were a girl, Natasha would have been on my shortlist too.
Good luck! x

MamaLazarou · 11/01/2010 14:56

Pippa - too horsey
Natasha - lovely: Natashas are always shiny-haired and gorgeous
Thea - OK
Naomi - lovely
Camilla - smashing (though again a bit horsey)
Tessa - nice name, but seems a bit grown-up. Just can't imagine a baby Tessa
Beatrix - Dislike this name immensely
Harriet - Fab name
Nancy - Fab name

thirtysomething · 11/01/2010 15:01

Like Natasha, Thea and Harriet best from your list.

Doesn't Thea rhyme with Freya rather than Leah?

seeker · 11/01/2010 16:43

Thea and Tessa. Don't worry about Tessa sounding grown up - better to be a baby for a year with an name that's too grown up than a grown up for 70 years with a name that only suits a baby!

legallyblond · 11/01/2010 16:48

When I suggested Thea on my shortlist I imagined the pronounciation as lockets suggests. Thea is derived from Dorothea (partly) and I have always heard it pronounced "Thi-a", and never "Thay-a"....

Thea lovely - like Thee-ah or Taya pronunciations, both gorgeous.

Nancy, Harriet, Tessa all nice.

Prefer Camille to camilla, but it's a pretty name all the same.

Dislike Pippa.

Not sure about Natasha or naomi. Sound quite 80s to my ear.

Dislike Beatrix, although Beatrice is OK and love Bea, Betty or Betsy as nicknames.

jellybeans · 11/01/2010 19:53

Pippa OK
Natasha NICE
Thea REALLY NICE
Naomi OK BUT WILL GET NAY
Camilla AWFUL
Tessa OK
Beatrix AWFUL
Harriet NOT KEEN, WILL GET HARRY
Nancy AWFUL

JaneiteIsAWimpyTeacher · 11/01/2010 19:56

I have a Naomi and she never, ever gets called 'Nay' though she gets called plenty of other things! I think it is classic and pretty, with a lovely meaning but not overly popular.

I love Harriet and wanted dd2 to be it but dp didn't.

Not so fond of Tessa but I like Tess (another name we considered).

Don't like Beatrix at all but love Beatrice. Thea is pretty.

Hate Camilla.

woahwoah · 11/01/2010 20:14

I have a Naomi too, and she doesn't get called Nay (Mimi sometimes when she was tiny). I like the name mostly for its meaning, and it's unusual-but-not-outlandish.
Of the rest of your list, I think Thea is nicest.

liliputlady · 11/01/2010 21:35

I like Natasha and Harriet the best.

bibbitybobbitysantahat · 11/01/2010 21:38

Like Tessa (but lurve Tess)

and

Nancy

only

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/01/2010 14:02

Pippa (we have a Philippa known as Pippa) and Natasha are my faves by miles.

nickytwotimes · 12/01/2010 14:05

I like

Pippa
Natasha
Tessa
Beatrix
Harriet
Nancy

Sunshinemummy · 12/01/2010 15:18

Pippa, Tessa and Beatrix I like.

AnnieBeansMum · 12/01/2010 15:20

I adore Natasha. I think they're all lovely (except Camilla - eww)

LuciaRose · 12/01/2010 15:23

Pippa - bit plain
Natasha - nice, but not outstanding
Thea - not keen
Naomi - sounds a little seventies to me
Camilla - love this, love Milly as nickname
Tessa - very pretty
Beatrix - nice, but sounds a bit like dominatrix
Harriet - nice enough, prefer Henrietta
Nancy - bad association for me, but otherwise a nice 1930s vibe

Laurily · 12/01/2010 19:21

If you call her Pippa do not let her go to Greece (Google for why if you're not sure). It's unfortunate because it's a pretty name. Like all the rest especially Natasha.

Beasknees · 12/01/2010 19:23

Beatrix
Harriet
Nancy

ellesabe · 12/01/2010 19:24

I LOVE Nancy but DH doesn't
