Hi

we've decided not to discuss our name choices with friends and family in advance but I would love some opinions... What do you think of Robin for a girl?

thanks

I always think of Robyn as a girl and Robin as a boy.
I do think it sounds more of a girls name.

MamaLazarou · 11/01/2010 12:45

I like it for both boys and girls.

Ineedsomesleep · 11/01/2010 12:48

IMO you are very wise not to discuss it with your family and friends.

We know a Robyn who is a lovely girl of 5, she's called Bob for short.

bellissima · 11/01/2010 13:20

I too like it for boys and girls (not to mention the chirrupy little bird in my garden looking a bit more cheerful today as it's less cold...). Robin just has pleasant connotations all round.

ten10 · 11/01/2010 13:26

I also think it is Robyn for a girl and Robin for a boy.

I have a boy who is Robin and always see this spelling and immediately think it is a boy (and vice versa with Robyn)

diddl · 11/01/2010 13:27

Isn´t it or wasn´t it a nn for Robert?

Dislike it for either sex tbh.

LaTristesse · 11/01/2010 13:35

Lovely!

MrsJohnDeere · 11/01/2010 13:39

Fab fab name, but better as Robyn for a girl imho.

Middledaughter · 11/01/2010 14:59

Thank you very much. I didn't realise Robyn was the girl's spelling but I like them both.

beautiful. With binnie as a possible nn- though that might put you off! One of my favourite books as a child had a "binnie"

Robyn Red Breast?

branmuffin · 12/01/2010 12:31

Lovely friendly fairly unique name for a girl. I have a sister inlaw called Robin (same spelling), named after a great auntie.

jeee · 12/01/2010 12:33

The Robin in the Chalet School was incredibly irritating.

squeaver · 12/01/2010 12:36

With a y.

lola0109 · 12/01/2010 12:43

Love it and would use it for DD (with a Y) if not for our surname, sounds a lot like Robyn Hood and for a girl, Robyn Hood and her merry men just makes her sound a bit...

But if you have the perfect surname then please use it, such a beautiful name!

Middledaughter · 12/01/2010 15:42

oooh thank you so much. I'm feeling really confident about the name now and I prefer the spelling with an i for a girl so I think we'll just go for it!

def spell it robyn if you choose to use it...i like it really trendy

SixtyFootDoll · 14/01/2010 20:55

Its lovley

Lobyd · 14/01/2010 21:11

I'm a Robyn! And I love it. When I was at school not so much, due to 'robin red breast, robin hood' type teasing...also used to get 'that's a boy's name...' all the time, including once when I turned up to a job interview...

But now I love having an uncommon name ( for my age at least ) , and although I don't use a particular shortening there are many lovely ones to choose from!
