Allegra: I like this. Not a car to me
Alyssia: no. Have Alicia instead
Ava: nice, hollywood ish
Biba: ghastly. A shop.
Edie: ok
Elsa; lovely if lionessish
Georgia; an american state
Marina; a place for boats
Olympia; a place in Greece.

Harriedandflustered · 04/01/2010 20:21

All hideous

Start again

lowrib · 04/01/2010 22:24

Harriedandflustered that's constructive

I imagine your name choices are really quite dull.

Harriedandflustered · 04/01/2010 22:40

Sorry dear

Shall I try again?

Allegra - hideous
Alyssia - worse than hideous
Ava - retro but not chic
Biba - ditto
Edie - is that a name?
Elsa - good name for a lion
Georgia - good name for a state
Marina - good name for a place to moor yachts
Olympia - back to hideous

Facebookaddict · 04/01/2010 22:51

What age bracket are you in (just out of interest)Harried?

Harriedandflustered · 04/01/2010 22:55

You can put me down as being in the age bracket 105-125.

I would point out to the OP that not every single girl's name has to end in an 'a'. There are softer, less formal and more euphonic names.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 04/01/2010 22:56

Georgia
Marina
Olympia

are lovely.

GrimmaTheNome · 04/01/2010 23:01

Allegra - should be nice but tainted by Austin Allegro
Alyssia - ok but may get confused with Elissia
Ava - like it (and Eva)
Biba - no.
Edie - I had twin great aunts Edie and Elsie. So I think nice for v old ladies. Maybe its time has come round again
Elsa - like it.
Georgia - Russia might invade
Marina - too nautical
Olympia - a bit much for a little girl.

PurpleEglu · 04/01/2010 23:30

I like Allegra and Biba

seeker · 04/01/2010 23:33

Elsa is OK

Why not Alicia?

Edith shortened to Edie, possibly?

Not Biba, please!
The rest are OKish.

Feierabend · 05/01/2010 09:46

Harried has a point about girls' names not having to end in an a... My DH also insisted we choose names that didn't for our 2 dds. Go on Harried, suggest some names that YOU like!

bellissima · 05/01/2010 10:14

Biba to me is the famous shop that I am not QUITE old enough to have nicked stuff from (as everyone who remembers it seems to have done).

Marina too 1950s posh, and yes for some reason Olympia says fat. And Allegra bit of a 'fast' girl. And Alyssia not as nice as Alice. But I like Ava and Elsa.

skihorse · 05/01/2010 11:56

bellisma In addition to Biba (Carnaby St) having clothed our mothers in the 60s - it's also the name of a hideously cheesey nightclub in Bromley frequented by middle-aged men desperately trying to shag gorgeous young things!

Thanks Team, you rock! I will steer clear of Biba for the greater good! Elsa, Edie and Ava are looking good. Really helpful everyone, thanks. xxx

Not mad keen on most of them to be honest. Other similar options are:

Iva
Iona
Alexia
Aria
Aurelie
Evora
Ophelia

Know an 18 month old Bebe
And would stick to Alicia spelling wise not Alyssia
Georgia - too US state would go for Georgina (nickname Georgie)
Olympia is a big no for me particularly 2012 wise
Marina - Maria/Malia are for me better options
Let us know xxx

My daughter's name is BIBA (pronounced Beeba) and it is a fantastic name. I am not British so I had no idea about the Biba shop when I named my little girl. Everyone who hears her name absolutely loves it. My little girl is sweet as apple pie and her name could be no other. By the way the name has arabic roots.

Confuseddotmum · 02/02/2010 17:57

My daughter is called Biba too and I love it, as do the vast majority of people who ask what her name is. Shortened to Bee, which is equally as lovely. So there!!

Xavielli · 02/02/2010 18:22

No thankyou, not my kettle of ball parks at all.

Only two I'd be able to live with would be Edie and Ava, but I know about 6 of the latter from friends and at school.

LouMacca · 02/02/2010 18:37

Out of your choices the only names I would consider would be Ava and Georgia.

Allegra and Olympia are just awful.

MaggieTaSeFuar · 02/02/2010 18:39

I like them ALL except Allysia or Alessia. too fussy.

But Marina, Allegra and Elsa are all beautiful. I also quite like Georgia. Olympia is stunning, not sure I would use it for my own child, but it is lovely. A real remember-me classic solid unusual name.

MaggieTaSeFuar · 02/02/2010 18:41

I like Biba! I'd use it as a nn for Beatrice. Just me.

Hulababy · 02/02/2010 22:10

I quite like Edie, but only as a nn for Edith.

ChippingIn · 03/02/2010 15:07

Have you chosen one yet??

Out of all of them, the only one I could live with would be Georgia (and in fact I have a 2nd cousin with this name and she's lovely ).
