Arthor. Have been thinking about this if this one turns out to be a boy...

Like or dislike?

Arthur? I like it .

bronze · 02/01/2010 16:09

Arthurs good

I'm assuming Arthor was a typo

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied · 02/01/2010 16:13

I think Arthur has an old man vibe. Is there anything else you like?

lovechoc · 02/01/2010 16:13

Arthor. no typo. what do you think of it? Would people mispell it as he got older?

Can always rely on MN to get honest opinions

So you can shorten it to 'Thor'?

mathanxiety · 02/01/2010 16:21

Either Thor or Arthur, nothing in between. Spelling variations just cause raised eyebrows and suspicions that someone couldn't spell it right.

sagenonion · 02/01/2010 16:24

Never heard of it. Don't like.

cookielove · 02/01/2010 16:28

i like it, so sweet

bibbitybobbitysantahat · 02/01/2010 16:31

Not my cup of tea I'm afraid.

cece · 02/01/2010 16:32

Looks like you can't spell

weegiemum · 02/01/2010 16:33

It would be the one teachers would to one another in the staffroom about.

Heated · 02/01/2010 16:35

Love Arthur.

Assume a typo in the OP? Otherwise it looks like a misspelling, probably of author.

Clary · 02/01/2010 16:41

Arthur is such a super name.
I am always posting this, but then I love those sort of names.

Also like George, Frederick, Edward, Edwin, Stanley.

Oh Arthor is what you meant? nononono. It would be spelled Arthur by everyone I am afraid.

I know a young Arthur and I know for a fact that his name is always spelled correctly (as most people apparently know an Arthur (eg grandad, uncle etc)). Unlike other children I know called Emilia, Jesicca, Maisy, Kiall etc.

TheMysticMasseuse · 02/01/2010 16:52

reminds me of Aragorn. he'll spend his life telling people "no, not Arthur"...

boodleboot · 02/01/2010 17:19

Just go with Thor.....we used this for our cat but both now secretly wish we'd hung on for it for a boy.....such a strong masculine name....

MamaLazarou · 02/01/2010 18:15

Love Arthur, hate Arthor. It looks silly and wrong.

thisisyesterday · 02/01/2010 18:21

sorry, is it actually a real name? how would you pronounce it?

i think people will think you wanted to use Arthur but either didn't know how to spell it, or thought using a weird spelling would be "cool"
which it isn't

CirrhosisByTheSea · 02/01/2010 18:52

Agree that people will just think you can't spell

Missus84 · 02/01/2010 18:55

How is it pronounced? Where does it come from?

SplitPea · 02/01/2010 18:55

I love Arthur but not Arthor.

MadBadandCoveredinTinsel · 02/01/2010 19:02

Arthur is fab. Arthor looks like you can't spell or are trying far too hard to be kool.

lovechoc · 02/01/2010 19:03

thanks folks, we won't be going with Arthor then. better to have honest opinions about it because it's how many people will probably react if we had a boy and called him Arthor.

I know someone who has named their son this (heard from a friend of a friend) a while ago and I was almost liking it but agree that many people will just think we couldn't spell for toffee! Ah well. Plenty time left yet to choose a name...

hocuspontas · 02/01/2010 19:04

I think people would stress the second syllable if they saw it written down.

Go for Arthur!

lovechoc · 02/01/2010 19:04

boodleboot DH likes Thor, but it doesn't do anything for me. Just not sure about it.

poinsettydawg · 02/01/2010 19:07

reminds me of arnold schwarzenegger. Has he been in a film where he calls someone Artor instead of Arthur? Or am I making that up?
