Hi all, just a thought here....
My gorgeous ds2 was born 3 weeks ago. Names are registered and we have his birth certificate. But now Im not sure about his middle name, I still like it but I dont truly love his middle names... am now wondering if it is too late to change them? Any ideas or thoughts on this? does anyone know of this happening before and is it possible once the birth is actually registered?
thanks xx

hi, thanks for reading.
Its just his middle names im unsure of. This sounds terrible, I know, I cant believe Im actually thinking it. Does it have any affect long term, eg on forms etc, would I just have to put his new middle names or include the old ones aswell? Oh im in a bloody quandry!! havent even dared to mention it to dh as one of the names I wanted in the bloody first place!!
How stupid am i? !

I can't believe how often these posts come up. I have become obsessed with baby names since changing DS's name, and keep an eye out for these threads. Yes it is possible - I changed DS's first name - so you're not as stupid as I am (I think I'm stupid for agreeing to the original name which I don't like, not for changing it - thank goodness I did!) . I added in a new first name, and made his original name an additional middle name. I still don't like the original name, but I wanted to be fair to DH, and also I was worried how DS might feel about the change when he is older. By keeping it in he will have a choice.

I mentioned his original name when I applied for his passport - but I don't think we will need to mention it on forms going forward (I phoned the general registrar office and this is what they seemed to think).

Change it if will make you feel happier. Middle names are rarely used though. Perhaps you could add a new middle name and keep the current one?

when applying for a passport you just provide the new birth certificate.it supercedes the first one.

I would understand changing your DS's first name if it was really worrying you. However, i really wouldn't bother changing his middle name. I gave my DD a beautiful middle name (my nan's first name) but her full name is so rarely used that I regret wasting it on a middle name now and wish I'd kept it for DD2. oIf you still like it and then leave well alone.

with DD1 Dh went to register the birth and got so excited that he added 2 extra middle names. all names from one side of the family and therfor completly ignoring the other side.We took both thoes extra names out .you really don't need 5 names {shock}

You can change name up to 12 months. "Short" certificate will just show just new name, "long" certificate will show both old and new names.
